Okay this all gave me a good laugh.

Is Timbuk2 a contender? I’ve had some of their bags for 10+ years and they have held up very well. Plus fun colors, lots of different shapes. Tends to be $$$ but I’ve found them at thrift stores sometimes and also they tend to have steep sales online every now and then (usually for unpopular colors).

Oh yeah! I forgot about that brand. I think I had either that or a Chrome bag in my (winces) fixed gear bike days. And yes, of course I had gauges. Duh. They really do last forever though, and they’re waterproof AFAIK.

I have two Cotopaxi fanny packs and somewhere on @anomalily’s journal there’s some discussion about their backpacks. So far very sturdy but less heavy then the Timbuk2 bag I have. B corp, claims to be ethical and sustainable. Bright hipster colors, interesting color blocking on less waste versions.

I have 2 Fjalraven re-kanken backpacks for my kid, one small and one normal. Both with the extra shoulder straps for comfort. I am excited to peruse all these other ones you listed. I don’t do handbags but I looove backpacks.

It’s true, @Elle. Everything you said. My goodness.

I used to buy a new Matt & Nat bag every year when I had aspirations of a certain kind of style. RIP cute little store on Bathurst just south of Bloor that had shoes and bags and hats and jewelry. Trove?

They were great for bags that fit a trade paperback but still looked cute. Plus Canadian cred still/maybe?

Cotopaxi! It’s what you want. I love mine.

Alternatively everyone here in Portland has north street backpacks made locally.

Unrelated to backpacks.

In case anyone else here did not realize that they needed a singular they: grammatically sound since 1300 tshirt.

Backpack awards- @allhat for knowing so, so many backpacks including hers he’ll and fall raven that I forgot (high fever, no meds, no correction typos)
Anima Lilly and rhubarb soda for the most hipster
Iulia for what I want and can’t have (but also if a cat sprays a Timbuktu bag and you don’t find it for a while it doesn’t survive)

My green purse is matnnat and about 10-15 years old, the change purse I had lost some of the text at about 15yo and is mia. The purse is already heavy though so the backpack won’t happen

@ladyduck for having a small frame - how does the regular size rejanken fit on you if you steal it?
@mountainmustacge for still having access to an outdoors coop that didn’t sell out behind your back

I didn’t know that MEC sold out :flushed:

It was the best, while it lasted.

My park ranger friend has a Fjallraven and loves it. They are quite small and it’s a small backpack and fits a lot.

Regular size Fjallraven is a good size on me. No structure to it, it’s a floppy canvas type material, but seems sturdy. Zips open all the way down on each side. We fit Duckling’s 1L water bottle, lunchbox with ice block, jumper, hat, and a few other bits in easily.

Have you looked at dayowl? They call to me through their IG ads although I already have a decent backpack so I haven’t actually gone for it yet: All Bags | Shop Stylish Sustainable Laptop Backpacks & Totes by Day Owl

I also see now they’ll take back bags you’re not using so now I’m thinking about it…

Price and size and lack of brain power mean I’m going with fjallraven! If it fits your back and @Clare-Dragonfly ‘s friend’s back then it will fit mine and I can use the power of outsourcing to the internet via my partner to get it. I think it’s also the only one under $100CAD which seems an insane amount to pay for a backpack.

Received the Aerie order. I too now recommend Aerie underwear. These are super comfy.

I am leaning towards getting an Instant Pot because yogurt in the oven seems more stressful. I’m thinking the 6 quart, Duo Plus (“9 in 1”). I could just get a yogurt maker for cheaper, but it seems for the incremental cost I’d be getting a lot more functionality. Plus it would be nice to not turn on the oven so much in the summer.

Are there other things I should be considering? Bigger size? Different version? Competitor brand? Am I too optimistic around the impact of cooking in the summer without a/c?
