Ha I was going to suggest the same thing!! I have a pair and my boyfriend makes fun of me for never taking them off (and I have very wide feet).
this is exactly the kind of recc I’m looking for, thank you!
ordered, and arriving Tuesday! I really hope I ordered the right size and that they’ll work for me. I really don’t want to do the online shopping back-and-forth, and I don’t want to have to use my cane in my apartment ):
Yikes!! Crossing fingers they work for you
thanks!
(when more things settle down I’ll be pursuing physical therapy again. I love my cane, it helps a lot on bad days, I just don’t want to use it inside my home.)
the shoes arrived! initial thoughts: they feel a bit tight for my problem foot. does this change with wear? or should I send back and size up? perfect for non-problem foot.
Where does it feel tight? And how tight? I have really high arches and wide feet and so the top band was a little snug at first. But over time my foot has sunk in a little/ the footbed has molded to my foot so it’s completely fine now
most of the swelling is across the top of my foot, between toes and ankle. it’s the beginning of my day, so swelling isn’t at peak yet, and it’s the band that feels…well, maybe not tight, but slightly too snug.
I think upon walking around in them more, I’ll need to size up. like I could size up for just the right shoe since they’re perfect for the left, but I don’t think spending over $100 is worth less slippage in my just-fine foot.
That sounds like might be a good call, especially since you’re anticipating more swelling during the day. YMMV but from my very very quick try on of a bigger size in a store, I think it * should * be not too floppy for your other foot
Oo! I know I’m late to the party, but I saw this and had to comment:
I’m obsessed with Frostbeard, which is a small company out of Minnesota. They make book themed candles!
I was going to recommend Manic Panic too. Some colors wash out faster than other colors, but that just gave me an excuse to keep trying new ones =)
I used to use SPLAT from Walgreens too. I don’t think they’re vegan like Manic Panic, but in my experience they last like no one’s business!
Jumping on the hair dye conversation - if I want to dye my hair at home and I’m a brunette (ish, see picture below) am I just screwed with color selection (browns and reds and maybe blacks only)? Bleaching my hair makes me nervous but also I don’t have time for that, I only dye my hair like every three to four months, roots be damned. I want to do some fun color for October but I don’t want to fuck it up and then have to go to a salon to have it fixed. (On the upside I work from home so really fucked up hair is just about my pride more than anything.) I know blues are very difficult, maybe a reddish purple? I can’t imagine green turning out well, I’m not crazy about orange to begin with and it would probably just look like a bad attempt at being a redhead. Hmm.
I’ve promised myself mermaid hair for my next milestone birthday, maybe I can be indecisive and keep putting off the decision till then.
Overtone has a “for brown hair” line and the rose gold turned my hair decidedly red/magenta for at least a little bit. I think blue and green are harder than reds.
I know this isn’t maybe the vibrant color you’re looking for, but I have really dark brown hair and whenever I wanted fun color in college I used Splat purple. It was subtle inside, my hair looked sort of darker and shiny, but in the sun it looked so cool! I just doubled however long they told me to leave it on for. If the box said 30 min, I did an hour.
Other topic: I have a great desire to become a plant lady but I’m not sure where to start! I hear about people ordering plants online? Does anyone here do this? Or does anyone have any recommendations for cat-safe plants?
I feel this is a whole new world to explore, but I’m not sure where the door inside is!
Spider plants are a wonderful place to start. Lots of shade levels tolerated, pet safe, easy to get. Just don’t overwater
I give babies (pups) away through Buy Nothing all the time. Ask on there?
My hair was darker than yours when I went purple last summer. I used one of the Feria kits. I can dig it up if you are interested. When I went purple with the bleach and all in March, the stylist used Pulp Riot Velvet semi permanent colour on me. I then switched over to Manic Panic vampire red over the purple. I found that the semi permanent colours bled out of my hair really easily and got frustrated with sweating purple/red and having to ensure my hair was fully dry to avoid staining clothes/furniture/pillowcases. My most recent colour was Garnier intense red.
You could try one of the deep blues, more Navy than turquoise. Green would be difficult and the reddish cast to your hair might make it come out a kinda muddy colour.
My stylist also recommended Pulp Riot semi-permanent colors. I just used the last half of a tube of pink I found in my cupboard on my hair and I can confirm it’s bleeding out WAY less than Manic Panic did (though to be fair I used slightly less of it). I can’t remember how well it fades, though, one of the dyes I tried faded out oddly orangey.
I’ve resigned myself (for now) to having a stylist bleach some highlights in my hair every 12-16 weeks and then just keeping up the color by myself. I don’t trust myself to highlight my own hair, but maybe I’ll get there someday.
Please join us! Would it be accessible to you to get plants in person, vs. ordering online? If so, I’d recommend going to a garden store or nursery, ideally not a chain, since those tend to have the best cared for plants (at least in the US, where I live.)
I’ve ordered plants online and the packaging can be hit or miss, and I don’t want you to think you’re failing as a plant lady if plants die from bad packaging.
I don’t have a cat, but I love the ASPCA’s toxin database for my dog: you can search for a particular plant and it will tell you any risks in detail.
