Definitely check out buy nothing or another local plant group on Facebook. People give away cuttings of plants or while plants a lot. In my house right now with 3 cats I have a few tradescantia (commonly known as wandering Jew but not a good term to use), aloe that they leave alone, a giant umbrella plant, a peperomia(this one is especially recommended for people with cats) and a few more. I might have a problem.
Nah.
I’m not sure about safe for cats, but the easiest houseplants to keep alive in my experience are pothos, ZZ plants, philodendron, snake plants, monstera (I think this one is toxic for cats?).
I think snake plant is toxic for cats too right? I’m not sure.
No cats. YET.
When we buy a house, the kids are getting kittens!
This is awesome, thanks for the advice everyone!! @noitsbecky @Bracken_Joy @Bernadette @gardeningandgreen
I recommend impulse buying plants and using them to grow more plants
If you do this really well you can sell the new plants. Or just make really good friends.
bigger size came in the mail today, and they’re perfect. I can wear socks with them, they don’t feel too snug, they don’t feel too loose, and my bad foot wasn’t killing me by the end of the day.
you deserve the happiest feet
thank you, Meowkins
Behold the top of a floor lamp that needs rewired and a lampshade. I’m attaching a pic where you can see the current situation- the part the bulb screws into is hanging loose; something is broken. I think I need all new parts that actually make the lamp function as a lamp. I definitely want a brown cord so that it blends in with the lamp since I will likely be wrapping it around the vertical part of the lamp. I’m lacking the terminology for what parts I am shopping for and know how to ensure it will be physically compatible with the lamp. I also cannot visualize how or where a lampshade would attach. Most lamps in this style have glass shades, Tiffany style. Please halp.
Hippo Hardware in Portland has an entire floor of vintage and restored light fixtures. If you call them, they may be able to help you or supply you with parts!
Here is a photo of my floor lamp, I think you’re missing the metal ring for the shade:
Former lighting salesperson. There’s two kinds of options here. One option is what Meow shows, which is a socket that takes 2.25” fitter shades, and the shades attach via the little thumbscrews. That’s generally going to give you the bigger variety of aftermarket glass.
Factory made lamps that are new have sockets like what yours once had. The sockets are threaded and then there’s a retaining ring that goes inside the glass shade to tighten the glass down. This glass usually does not have the extra neck that allows the thumbscrews to hold them, and usually is harder to find unless you’re ordering replacement glass for a specific fixture. But I’ve definitely done that for folks, they’d come in and pick something off a fixture in the showroom that fit with their lamp and then we’d call the company to get a price on just the glass, if it was available.
Well, an update to say the Pulp Riot light pink MOSTLY washes out after one wash Sad day.
Sadness!
Hey guys! I gave little dude my hand me down phone 2 years ago. This week I got him a sim card, and was reminded of why I jettisoned that phone. It can’t handle texting. I am happy to get him a new phone for the holidays. I want something that will be usable for a very long time. The options I have found are:
Pixel 2 XL. I love my pixel, but it’s a 4a. This one came out in 2017. $150
Samsung A02. Came out this year. I don’t know anything about this specific phone but Samsung is usually pretty good. $200
The samsung is the better choice, right? I strongly prefer Pixels but new vs almost 5 years old seems worth $50.
Or is there some other awesome option? I have only been looking for a few minutes.
Please bear in mind that I have to buy from .ca sellers, in CAD. My upper limit is $200.
I’m still rocking a Pixel 2 and it does everything I need pretty well. Battery doesn’t last quite as long as it used to, but it’s still speedy and reliable.
Fashionable friends - any recs for cute shoes you’d pair with this dress for a fall wedding in a historic New England inn? I’m a size 6.5 and can do heels 2.5 inches or under. I don’t like wearing ankle boots with dresses.
My pixel 2a died and doesn’t work well. I have bought the budget Samsung’s before for wastrel exes. They seemed fine. I’m on a umidigi right now which is working well
