I feel like @noodle and @Economista were talking about a photo book service they use?
I use Shutterfly and I think it uploads from Google photos!
Also, I’m very sorry for your loss. <3

I use ChatBooks but I’m not sure it’s right for this use case. They don’t have postcards as far as I know, but you can check it out!
Has anyone tried telephoto lenses that clip onto a phone camera? @plainjane @neovonretorch
I’m sorry, I’m no help here
I think GM has used one. Will ask and report back
Not me personally, but I’ve seen it once or twice. Don’t remember details or results.
#sorrynothelpful
Apparently he used something to attach the camera to a microscope or telescope which is different somehow
I have two extremely scenic trips coming up in the coming year and I want better photos, especially better zoom, but don’t want to replace my phone. Or buy a secondary camera.
I’m probably asking for something that doesn’t exist but you folks know stuff so I’m asking.
I couldnt work out mine but I believe my friend who takes tiny bug photos has one. So there should be some youtube about how to use them?
I gave my mother a macro lens, not a telephoto, for hers and she’s gotten a lot of flower pics out of it.
So our old Hamilton Beach electric kettle seems to have died.
I ordered an odd brand gooseneck electric off Amazon but I’m probably going to return it. The buttons are spongy and awful. It’s hard to tell if they worked until you remove your finger and check if it lit up. (I know, I’m being picky.) Other than that, the paint smell when it’s hot is mildly disturbing, but maybe that’s common with this type of product?
While coffee is important to me, I don’t want to give myself TOO much permission to spend
Though the Fellow Stagg is kind of calling to me. $200, stone blue + walnut… I like the knob interface, and that it shows current and set temperature as it heats.
Does anyone else care to weigh in on fancy electric kettles?
I have a fancy kettle and it brings me so much joy.
Tools that are used every day should work well and feel nice. Get the fellow.
Paint smell when hot would be a big no from me.
I have a cheapass Hamilton Beach kettle that is Fine so I have no other advice.
Yeah the one that just died is $60-65. Has ~6 or so preset temps. Main reason for trying something new is that I mostly do pour overs and a goose neck would be “nice” for that.
That and someone at work brought in one with a knob and LED for temperature read outs and I got tech envy.
This one I posted above shows current and preset temps, and no paint smell
. It has buttons instead of a knob, but I personally like the feedback of buttons better anyway.
Ooh and looks like it’s on a good sale from the Evil Empire
Oh perfect that you have this! Is it 1° or 5° per + and -?
And it holds the last temp you set? So then just press power to start it?
I do like Cuisinart in general and this looks decent, but I wasn’t sure how the +/- buttons worked exactly.
There’s a good video demo of the controls on Evil Empire’s site.
Hold power to turn it on, 5° increments, wait a few seconds and it starts, then shows current water temp. Definitely interested.
I will give the Smacky counterpoint! I wasn’t the person who bought the Fellow in my household, but the kettle Econ shared would work equally well for us for how we use it.
We aren’t in the habit of making pour over coffee, so I think it was bought with the mindset of “it would be nice to make pour over coffee.”
I’ve had a Fellow Stagg in my office room for 2 years now and I’m happy with it. My favorite thing about it is hold temp – I’m always distracted by a child or a meeting right after I start the kettle, so it’s a nice surprise to find it’s still hot when I come back.
Here’s a beautiful alternative with gooseneck, similar temp control features, and very good reviews. It’s $99 instead of $180.
Don’t get the Hario, they pour very nicely and are cheaper, but mine started leaking water from the bottom after about 3 years. I thought it was user error but my 2nd one just disintegrated after a few years too.
I had actually bought a Stagg a while back and sold it for a loss. It came with a plastic off-gas odor.
Love my Brewista!
Went with the Cuisinart. When I ordered the first kettle, Evil Empire offered Prime 7 days for $1.99. So shipping is fast, and the GK-1 arrived yesterday. Boiled water last night to break it in. Do have to watch the “keep temp” default as putting the kettle back before it auto-shuts off means it will sit and heat whatever water you leave in there
(You can turn off “keep temp” with a button press!)
This morning, MvR made tea (185° F - she said that was a bit too hot), and I made pour-over at 195° F.
Love the display and the buttons. Good pour. Definitely a good buy for the money. An upgrade from my last one without costing much more ($80, and the old one was dead, though a straight replacement would’ve been $60-65.)
Still detected a faint whiff of hot paint, but the paint is only on the outside, and I have a sensitive nose. It was about 1/20th the offensiveness compared to the odor of the first kettle!
