Your Very Own Personal Shopper

Not either of those brands but I have a Sabai couch (it’s configured like a regular couch and not a sectional but could be expanded). I don’t like overly soft couches so it’s been great and I have multiple pillow covers and slip covers that I rotate and wash.

I want to style as a regular couch with two ottomans - so, chaise-like but moveable pieces

It looks like they have Ottawa and Toronto locations? (I find most internet brands end up with a flag ship or pop up eventually)

Road trip!

I have looked at so many different reviews and options and my brain is swimming, it’s time for a spreadsheet, and maybe… Not a modular set up after all?

I bought a lovesac without being able to go to a store and sit on one (their closest storefront is like two hours away) and was banking on reputation (also money back guarantee) and crossing my fingers REAL hard because of the price. (I also bought during a sale, Labor Day I think?) “Regular” couches and loveseats won’t even fit though the doorway, which is super narrow and a very tight angle, so my choices were modular or futon, but I needed something decently tall because my mother can’t get up from low things very easily at all and I wanted it to be comfortable for her when they visit.

I got 2 bases, 2 backs, and 1 arm (believe me, if 2 arms would fit in my tiny living room I would have). PLUS a third base to use as an ottoman. It has no back but it does have a back cushion that comes with the base, that I can push right up to the couch and make like an “L” (it even actually attach it, though I really think I’d want another back to actually make it for properly).

It looks really nice and is very comfortable for sitting and napping (it’s slightly firm but still soft enough?) I’m glad I did it, I hope never to have to buy another one ever for the rest of my life, and I can get alternate covers as long as the company is in business, which I might do preemptively just in case even though I like the current covers. And with pets, I like that you can remove the covers and wash them. Boy have we come a long ways from old couch covers!

So I guess what I’m saying is that modular furniture can look really nice, and be worth all those $$$.

This morning a couch was posted on our local buy nothing

Is it as nice as what I was looking at online?
No.

Is it better than what I currently have in the front room?
Yes.

Does this mean I can put off this decision till I’m in Ottawa or Toronto and can actually sit on the couch I’m looking at?
Also yes.

It also risks the delay going on for years. I feel like our sofas are delay sofas even though we bought new.

Ha, yes. This is also likely

If my husband put on his Christmas list, “keyboard piano (compact for laptop use, nothing fancy),” what does he mean by that? Does anyone have any product recommendations?

None of us play an instrument or read music so I’m assuming this is just something he is thinking of fiddling around with for reasons of his own.

TBH if he doesn’t already play, I wouldn’t buy this; I’d let him decide on what model he wants. I think with keyboards there is a wide range of quality available and it would be hard to know what “nothing fancy” means to him.

Never having bought a keyboard I have nothing useful to say though!

Probably a midi controller keyboard. We have this one I think - it’s one of the cheapest out there unless you get secondhand and is likely adequate.

Help! I am feeling very dumb and cranky.

I want a way to automate a toggle switch. Preferably that I can control via the Alexa app. And I would rather not have to do wiring. I can, but something that I can pop over or next to the toggle would be optimal.

I just want a way to turn off my ceiling fan in the morning before I have to leave the blankets.

This looks like it will do it for traditional switches in one of the pics.

I have never owned a suitcase and I think it’s time to get one. I’m going to get a spinner carry on thing. But hard shell or soft sided? If you have reasons please share them.

Soft is cheaper and easier to squeeze into places.

We have a hard sided checked bag and a few soft sided carry ons.

The hard sided bags don’t generally have extra pockets on the outside. I like outer pockets for carry on.

Hard sided is preferred for checked.

They both have their positives and negatives

Soft sided because hard-sided ones weigh a lot

My vote is just make sure you can take the wheels off if you’re going to check it. Those things snap off in like 3 seconds.

Full disclosure: I have both. I am addicted to luggage, honestly, I go to the tj maxx section of luggage just to ooh and ahh over it. I don’t know why other than it screams travel potential to me.

The hard side is nice. It wheels easily, seems to tip less, and has a sleekness to it.

But the soft seems to be more lightweight, flexible to squish or expand as needed, be less easily cracked or damaged. I’d go soft.
