I was going to say Target but we’re not shopping there now, either. I think Kohl’s is a great suggestion. They have lots!
I like flat back earrings, sometimes sold as nap earrings, usually sold as various body piercing jewlery. They’re sort of hard to put in (I need a magnifying mirror these days lol) and the ones I got are teeeeeeny. But they’re super comfy and what I got to perma-wear so my holes stopped trying to close. The backs are the actual post, and come in different lengths. The fronts are on a small pin that you then have to get in the hollow post. I got my first pair on Etsy, but all the retail marketplace platforms have them now, for various prices that have all gone up a lot with the tarrifs. I specifically looked for posts labeled titanium as I’m moderately sensitive to cheap metal. I ended up getting a multi-pack of identical fronts and backs from AliExpress bc I kept dropping either the front or back and having a hard time finding it and it was stressful. The first pair I got was a little long (6 or 7mm backs I think?), but the multi-pack in the 5mm length is perfect.
LB slept in that kind for months when he got his ears pierced - they’re designed for that!
Oh yes, I have several earrings that I find comfortable for sleeping. Sorry the photo is blurry, but I find all of these comfortable to sleep in except for the pair I circled.
The hoops are all huggie hoops. The circled one has both a small 9 mm inner diameter, plus a thicker profile and I don’t find it as comfortable as the other hoops. Although I can still sleep in it.
The stud is a flat/screw back earring. The back is smooth and rounded, and screws onto the post.
All of these earrings were from Oh Clem which totally got me with their Instagram advertising.
@Greyweld I got small gold hoops which are a pain to latch but after I got them on I just don’t take them off. Super comfortable and I don’t feel them at all.
@greyweld, if you do get flatback ones like this, make sure the screw-in front has a pointed screw end and not a flat end, or they’re RIDICULOUSLY difficult to get into the back post.
I have some flat backed earrings for my cartilage piercings and they are super comfy, but I never change them because it takes me like 20 minutes to screw the new ones in. Maybe I just need reading glasses
(please god not yet).
The ones I got are just a push pin, not threaded! Still a challenge, but much faster than twisting something together!
I was given threaded earrings because I could be counted on to not accidentally pop off the backing. It has worked great.
yeah, I had some that tried to jump out when I was drying my hair, but bending the pin a little more plus the shorter posts seems to have fixed it!
we are about to have pretty new hardwood floors downstairs
the shadowy one has an ikea office chair for their desk. I see there exist some kinds of wheels that we can swap out that mean we wouldn’t need to buy a mat (The Original Rollerblade Office Chair Wheels Ikea Size | Lifetime Warranty – The Office Oasis) but they of course don’t ship to Canada. Home Depot offers (https://www.homedepot.ca/product/wen-3-in-polyurethane-replacement-office-chair-swivel-caster-wheels-5-pack-/1001661105)
Other than Amazon, additional ideas or solutions, or do we just get a plastic mat?
Pretty rug instead of plastic mat?
a rug is a consideration. we had trouble with the rug that we used upstairs under my desk, with the backing adhering to the floor at pressure points.
So if we do that we’ll need to do more due diligence on the purchase (perhaps getting an underpad?)
Blundstone people, I need advice. I usually wear a US women’s 6/6.5, often W depending on brand.
The first pair I ordered were AUS 3/US 6 because that size was available for children and so much cheaper. They were too small so I sent them back and got 3.5/6.5.
They don’t feel any bigger at all! I can get my feet in but it’s difficult. Should I go up a whole size and get 4.5/7.5 or should I try 7? Is 7 going to be wider or just longer than 6.5? I need them wider.
They have an unusual sizing system: the half-sizes are wider but not longer. So the 6.5 would have been wider than 6, but no longer. 7.5 will be wider then the 7, but the same length. That sounds like it might work for you. I am usually a W6-6.5, tried them in-store and ended up with 7.5 (which is at least a full size bigger than any other shoe I own).
Also there’s a difference between women’s styles and unisex styles. You might have to go up a whole size for women’s styles, which are narrower. If it’s a women’s style maybe you need 4.5.
Not helpful to anyone, but I just feel like grumbling. WHY? Why does Blundstone just have their own entire system that is different than all the other shoe manufacturers sizing system? I mean, it’s already not a great system, with mens sizes, women’s sizes, children’s sizes, wide, narrow, blah blah blah. And now unisex sizes, too? WTF. And half sizes mean something no one knows about?
Life is hard enough. We don’t need shoe sizes to be this hard. And yet…
Couldn’t agree more! I tried on a pair last winter and didn’t know about their unusual system, so I returned them immediately because the fit was so weird. I am so happy for my internet and IRL friends who like them and also can’t choose to prioritize thinking this hard about sizing.
Ohhh that explains why the women’s 6.5 was just as tight as a unisex 4. Duh. Unisex/youth is always wider.
I am really happy that you can get shoes without doing this! I seem to have weird feet and this is not, like, beyond the pale for me. OK, having to return twice is less common for me. But I struggle and brands that used to be reliable for me seem to have changed their sizing (no, really, I compared two pairs of Easy Spirits and the newer ones were visibly smaller!).
Maybe try an actual shoe store? I think that by the time you’ve returned a couple of pairs it would have been easier to just go to a store with a fitter.
