I really like the Kyte bamboo women’s underwear. Very comfortable, no details but fun colors. $15/pair so not nothing, but I have some that are 4 years old and still going strong. The fabric is really breathable so they’re comfy even if I sweat during the day, though if I’m hanging to dry it doesn’t dry quite as quickly as super thin synthetic underwear.
I bought a package at Costco recently. They’re all cotton and seem pretty comfy. It’s a 5 pack and they’re all in a gradient of pinks which would not be my first pick but seems nice for summer.
I’m going to clean out my underwater drawer and toss some that are really ratty and some that I never wear, and think about sewing some more.
i wear tomboyx boxer briefs. they hold up well — i’ve had some pairs since 2020! and no chub rub ever.
i buy them on sale since they are expensive full price.
I did clean out the drawer and it turns out all the really ratty pairs were on the top. I tossed those, sorted by color, rolled thing up , an I have plenty of underpants! Lol
I ordered a pair of boxer briefs to try from your eBay seller! Which I’m glad you included, because the website was entirely sold out of giant underwear (that is, a larger coverage style in a size over M), as far as I could tell.
I’m also really interested in the TomBoyX recommended by @madgeylou but I don’t want to try too many things at once. I do wear a lot of skirts and dresses in the summer.
I also like tomboy, esp under dresses and skirts!
Any recommendations for a booster seat that is easy to carry?
If I don’t feel strong enough to walk it, I’m going to have to Uber with kiddo this summer for summer camp pick up. She’s on the early side for a booster but it’s still OK. I also could use the Ridersafe vest. I wonder if it is fiddly?
We have a ridesafe vest for traveling and it’s not too fiddly. The kid can put it on and walk around with it and it’s pretty easy to get into a car and buckled up. Hardly longer than it takes for an adult to buckle up. One downside is they sit pretty low so can’t really see out the window if they’re short.
Hmm that sounds good then.
Fairly certain that variants on this topic have come up before but recommendations for bras specifically for hot/humid weather? I’m pretty average size-wise and don’t find going without particularly pleasant comfort or otherwise, but while my standard sports bras are fine most of the time, they’re a nylon/spandex combination that doesn’t dry quickly which isn’t great when I’ve got something like hiking in the morning and then having no chance to change (and they’re worse in a humid climate, which is currently a planned trip). Are there any specific brands/materials people have had luck with?
I have one from Exofficio Give N Go line that is super thin and light. And I know the undies dry fast (wore them backpacking, didn’t bring a swimsuit). Downside of most thin/comfy materials for sticky weather: pretty low support ![]()
I’ve also liked the Athleta Solace line year round…although I’m becoming disenchanted for unclear reasons. The material isn’t super special, but the strappy back is supportive without being too warm. Single spaghetti straps dig in and don’t support my bewbs at all.
(these are more like ideas to consider than solid recs…)
I think the Branwyn merino bralette is pretty good. Follow the size chart to get an accurate size.
I recently got some Simply Merino bralettes that are almost pure merino and they seem like they’ll be super comfortable. I only tried them on so far, though. I’m looking forward to wearing them during long air travel and in India.
Window Inserts!
A huge recommendation for these super affordable window inserts if you have older, single paned windows! They are custom made and are vinyl with aluminum frames and a spongey foam rim for flexible fit. We bought two bigger ones for the bathroom and four smaller ones for the garage, and it was only $400 total for the six inserts, including shipping. It has made a huge difference this past winter for insulation and now I’m noticing a big difference for keeping the heat out this summer. In addition, in the garage it’s reduced the number of corners available and is deterring spiders!! I think they’re probably the best purchase I made for our house last year.
so in Old Town every kid was issued a chrome book in grade 7, that then got ‘refreshed’ in grade ten.
New town does not do this, and they recommend that parents purchase a device for their child for school if possible.
I looked on Best Buy’s website, and was completely overwhelmed
I need a Chromebook for J2, who is heading into grade 9, that will last him 4 years.
If I could figure out what the school’s issue, I would just duplicate one, but I have no idea.
Recommendations?
(J1 has one issued for the school year through special ed, but it gets returned for the summer)
Does it need to be a chromebook? I’m wondering what will carry better to post secondary…
it doesn’t need to be a chromebook - but I expect that in four years, J2 will need something new regardless for post secondary.
chromebooks are standard in the high schools, which was why I was thinking that way (and they tend to be tough?)
But true point, regular laptops are also an option
Does he show signs of what career(s) hes interested in? Getting familiar with the common operating systems may be a boon. Software developers and data scientists seem to mostly use Apple products (which for all their expense are durable AF. They can be more reasonable if you find refurbished models a few years old? ) Artists and publishing also seem to favor Apple. Engineers tend to usually use Windows.
Also what is your budget? As low as possible or expecting to spend $X?
At the moment he’s leaning towards being a LEO, through the military.
hmmm budget - no more than $700? He had a chromebook for all of grade 7 in old town, and took care of it. So I’m not terribly worried about him leaving it on the bus etc.
I wish the schools had an option for parents to buy through them, so that we could get a bulk deal ![]()
(I’ve also sent a message to a friend in old town who still has kids in high school, to ask what they have)
GAAAAAAAAH (Sorry, but this one definitely depends on the engineer and possibly engineering type. Myself and most of the people in electrical/computer engineering that I know hate Windows with a passion, a situation not improved by Microsoft’s attempt to make everything a subscription)
Having said that, chromebooks are what the schools around here use too…it was an Acer the last time they did a bulk buy, but that was a couple years ago and I can’t say what kind of evaluation they put into it.
