We buy big bags of coffee beans at Costco and go right ahead and grind them in the coffee grinder there. We have a drip coffee maker with a timer and dh sets it up at night and brings me the single mug of coffee that I drink in a day while I am still in bed. It is delicious!

We’ve had various coffee grinders over the years and dh hates the entire process. It’s too noisy, it’s too messy, it’s another sep, and neither of us notices any difference anyway.

None of the grocery stores around here have this and it’s so annoying! All my coffee methods (cold brew, pour over and French press) are supposed to have course ground coffee and I’ve just given up.

Right?? I can appreciate doing things slowly and mindfully…sometimes…but definitely not first thing in the morning :joy:

I’m going to start doing this. Just not having the grinder out and making a mess every morning with grounds would be a big improvement

I don’t do it every morning, I do a batch which I put in a tin and then when it runs out I do another batch. The tin is kept in the fridge!

All this talk of coffee had me pondering my own cup this morning. Do these different methods lead to more or less of the sediment? Dregs? I don’t know the word in English, it is borras in Portuguese.

The coffee I drink normally now does not have much in the way of borras and this is different from the coffee I grew up drinking or that I have when visiting my parents. Is it using a basic coffee machine that is making the difference? My dad usually uses a moka pot.

I just realized there is zero way to read my future with my normal American life coffee.

The Moka pot leaves dregs. They can be minimized with the right grind size, but they are always there.
(Moka pot use is pretty regular around here)

As a first approximation, whether you use a filter (and what kind) will determine a lot of that. Drip or pour over uses paper filter which can catch very fine sediment. Moka pot has a metal screen but you use fine grounds so some gets through. (French press uses coarse grounds but some still gets through). Turkish coffee isn’t filtered at all, although I think you let it settle and pour off the top. Still, very sedimenty.

We have a non electric percolator for camping and there’s loads of dregs. I hadn’t considered the fortune telling possibilities.

What should I buy to help with hair loss/new growth? I’ve always had very fine, thin hair but over the past month it has once again started falling out by the handful and it’s shockingly thin now. Like, I just put it in a ponytail and it’s not thicker than my finger. I’m sure the hair loss is stress related (again). Are there any products that actually help and promote new hair growth? I don’t have the bandwidth to try to research and find the proven things in the mess of snake oil advertisements, but I figured you all might know!

I think rogaine is still the main thing. I read a memoir fairly recently by a lady who used it.

It is but once you start using it you have to forever I believe. For growth without commitment the consensus seems to be biotin, and rosemary oil (adding some to shampoo). It seems like there are levels of success with both (depending on what the problem is).

Not sure about supplements, but make sure you aren’t scraping your hair back into too tight buns or ponytails. That can cause a lot of hair lose because of the tension.

Also headaches - I don’t often realize that my pony tail is the source of my headache until I take it out

Yep - because of headaches I very rarely pull my hair back. I did it today because I fell asleep with wet hair after washing it last night and it was a nightmare this morning.

I think it depends on the reason for the hair loss. The PCOS subreddit swears by androgen inhibitors (spirolactone for prescription, spearmint tea/supplements for herbal, efficacy more variable), but idk if that holds true for menopause related hair loss. The other thing I’ve seen with some more convincing evidence for it is red light therapy but the devices are $$$$$, so I haven’t tried it personally. Anecdotally, the spearmint supplement seemed to be helping for me after a few months, but it all takes forever to see if it’s working, and it could also have been the stress cycle ending.
