Do you want/need:

  • a back?
  • a seat belt - 2 point ok or do you want 5 point?
  • anything for B1 to hold on to (there are various options with handlebars or a metal rectangular frame all around the seat)
  • do you need him to be able to climb on by himself?
  • what other features?

I suspect that if Gears and G don’t have mounting solutions our very local bike store will. And if his distributors can’t get him the seat I could buy it from Gears without installation.

Bunch bikes also may be interested in problem solving

I want a back and a seatbelt. 3-5 point preferred but we can workaround the seatbelt on a lap belt - G has solutions for that

We have a cage (Rad Wagon 4 caboose).

ETA he can climb or be installed by me. I need to brace when he climbs as he doesn’t understand centres of balance.

I dunno if it expand your options, but Tern makes a 2 point seat belt that mounts to a cage. Tern Sidekick Seat Belt | Perennial Cycle

And this is a separate backrest that might be riggable if you otherwise like a seat. But it feels like a lot of DIYing and the parts are already $60.

Do you like the options on your list, just trying to spend less & get it shipped in a reasonable timeframe?

Also, I’m in a FB group for my Tern HSD and it’s been helpful to get product/accessory tips that are compatible. Looks like there’s one for the RadWagon 4.

Thank you! The backrest is awesome! I’d probably pair it with either that seat cushion or the Rad one after more research.

I slightly prefer the junior chairs because B1 has a bit more going on than anticipated when we bought the bike- at that point the assumption was that as the kids outgrew their seats they could sit like adult passengers except adding the cage. That isn’t the case for B1 and even into adult hood would probably require ongoing targeted exercises and the sitting would still be a workout in itself. I do think the backrest and seatbelt will be functional even though it isn’t ideal.

2 yo already holds on well and is usually holding on nicely even in his sleep.

We’re okay for lead time. I’m estimating 3-4 months more he can sit in his current seat ignoring the footrests

Yeah sorry we got a back one. I guess that’s also the Yepp, lol, just not the front mounted one.

We have the rack mounted thule yepp and it’s great but it’s only rated to 35 or 40 lbs.

Yeah ours is for the baby, so plenty of time to go there. Big kid is riding on her own now, but even she’s not 36lbs yet.

Apparently the same seat is rated to 48 lbs in Europe because their testing standards are different? Don’t quote me on that.

Yeah, the kg rating by country is different, And for their trailers (and maybe seats) the lower ages vary too. So we go by what works for us. I think most kids will grow out of the seat lengthwise before weight. The same with the strollers and trailers.

I think a big piece of which things are available or regulated in different markets is that in some countries commuting/doing everything with kids is more standard than in others. Plus aged under 10 ability to hold on/balance/stay awake varies a lot. I would have needed the seat a long time like B1, but I was short.

Since we’re now going to a family Christmas thing with a Yankee swap, we need three things to bring. Budget $25-$35

My thoughts so far are a throw blanket and maybe an alarm clock with Bluetooth and USB charger if I can find one without getting overwhelmed. Any other ideas?

Rechargeable battery set. (Or a bunch of disposables. Or light bulbs. Nice choose a temp LED kind from Costco.)

Re: chargers, I highly recommend the brand Anker and they have some sleek, high quality, gift able options. Also 10ft USB cords like Noodle said. Love these for travel when the nearest plug is under a bed, etc.

Adult coloring book and pencils (maybe watercolor ones :sparkles:)

A puzzle

A cookbook or craft book

I need a phone charger in the kitchen. We have plenty of chargers and cables. Why don’t I have one yet? A mystery.
