Your Very Own Personal Shopper

For example, I have 3 important things to print and scan and I’ve been procrastinating for weeks because it’s just so annoying. It is 7 years old.

That’s wild! I’ve never heard of a printer that doesn’t let you just print from whatever software you’re working in!! I would also be very annoyed about that! Mine also takes a second to organize the cord, but that’s because it’s so old that it doesn’t have wireless :joy::joy: but it’s a regular USB printer cable (now with USB c adapter)

I bought the VueScan software bc I have a little document feed scanner I really like but the software isn’t compatible with the latest operating system version, and I’ve been very pleased with how simple it is.

We have a 10-year-old wireless Brother monochrome laser printer that also scans and copies that still works perfectly. We got a new desktop PC and a new Macbook Air in the last few months, and both devices connect and print without any issues.

We’re finally getting a message to replace the drum unit soon. Since we print about 1000 pages a year, that’s about right.

I’ve tried several off-brand toner cartridges but found that the high-yield OEM cartridge gives the best quality and most pages. We’ll probably go with OEM for the drum unit too.

Anyone have suggestions for gifts for a giraffe-obsessed grownup? Thinking things like: neat illustrated tshirts, socks, etc.

Salt and pepper shakers? My friend is obsessed with llamas and I found a set of them and she loved it!

Or a car decal that hangs from the mirror?

I’m dying laughing this is great

Does anyone have experience with junior rear mounted bike seats? Usually marketed for age 6-10/35kg.

I have spent forever on research. And made this list:
Qibbel- maybe Burlington
Urban Iki - ships to UK
Polisport - maybe QC
Thule Yepp Junior maybe Denmark or other EU
Chinese Amazon/aliexpress search rear mount passenger seat (usually no seatbelt)

Experience with distributors would be extra amazing. It looks like we can get some shipped from Europe but full price+shipping+customs😭.

Urban IKI we could probably get if we act fast for regular price plus excess baggage fees.

@BiblioFeroz I’ll share any findings with you, but your version comes with a caboose plus seat back whereas my caboose has no seat back option.

@Star I know you went through a thousand options with your non cyclist

oh goodness, we tried everything.

  1. Trailer. J2 rode in the back of the trailer for freaking ever.
  2. Tag a long bike - he didn’t pay attention, and squirmed so much, that this was super unstable. back into the trailer he went
  3. True tandem bike. This was the way he finally learned to ride a two wheeler at about 8 or 9 years old. 200km on the back of the tandem through the Laurentians staring at Dad’s butt, and he came home and was finally able to ride his own bike.

Also, I would look at what Wike offers - they often have adaptive trailers and bikes. Husband bought a utility trailer from them for the back of his bike when he was working as the Active Transportation guy for the municipality (well, his work did). I believe they are either based in Guelph or have a retailer in Guelph

We wanted the Yepp, but the design of our existing bikes meant we had to get a back mounted Thule. Be sure to look up the manual and be sure it fits your bike, is my big take away.

Bummer that they don’t make yours with a back! The caboose for my model is a new product - I actually emailed them to ask for it! And didn’t know they had made it, so thanks for letting me know!

Good luck buying a seat! I think there used to be one available on this continent for 6-10yos but that was like 10 years ago when the boys were little.

You could get the yepp junior (big kid) in the US? We have a yepp mini on the front of G’s play bike and 2 yepp maxis on my bike. (Those are all Thule). B2 still fits in all of those, But B1 does not.

Do you have a guess as to what your local bike store was? I don’t see that on Amazon.

Yeah, the 7 year old reddit threads were where I pulled most of these models, just trying to find them here or something local. I think my biggest win might be a store who can tack one onto an order and save us some shipping and customs, or else try a $40 Amazon model and more likely import something around $500

Old local bike store (Gears) can get me a polisport guppy but if I’m reading correctly the specs won’t match. Research into frankenstein solutions will commence next

the thing about Little Bike Shops, the midrange ones, not the racing ones? Is that there is nothing they love more than figuring out a creative solution.

Wike is often brought up in the special needs groups - I believe that they have supported many parents who have specific requirements based on their kids limitations, which is why I suggest them
