Day 5 complete!
I did not do day 5, I took a sick day. I did not do my walk either which I had been doing daily. We’ll see how tomorrow goes.
day 3 went fairly well, though I find it very frustrating that my knees dislike child pose, which I used to love and gives a beautiful lower back relaxing stretch for me. Side plank is very much all or nothing on the left side.
Based on the calendar, days 4 and 5 will require a lot of forgiveness as to my current capabilities, but I plan to continue doing my best.
I don’t want to do yoga. I want to… I don’t know actually. Probably nap, aggressively. And angrily. At the world.
But I will do yoga.
Me to
Buddies!
I haven’t yet but in my defense a friend texted to make plans. (They involve rapid tests and outdoor walks.) Also, I’m sitting on my mat! Just had to check OMD before opening YouTube >_>…
DON’T JUDGE ME
Don’t look at this before you start but it wasn’t that hard!
Yay day 5!
If you started shortly after posting this we were yoga-ing at the same time!
This was my least favorite day so far. I should have known from the title. “Deepen” means trying to make my body bend in ways it does not bend.
Also, I need to do some sort of warm-up before yoga. When I used to yoga at the gym I had a 10 minute bike ride to get there, and then we usually started with sun salutations. Going from cold to figure 4s doesn’t work for me.
Good news is I successfully did the squat, though I struggle with keeping my feet from folding inward. And my only way out of a deep squat (other than just collapsing) is crow pose, so I got reacquainted with my namesake after a long hiatus.
Oh I saw up thread that it was lots of stretching! My favorite! Also high five!
I did it right after! Yay yoga buddies!
Hang in there with the stretching! I joined a yoga FB group last year and the squats are a sticking point for a lot of people! You are very far from alone! Tips include starting with something under your heels, making sure feet are wide apart, and practicing against a wall or sitting on a block (hard to relax and train the stretch if you’re tensing to stay balanced!)
Also, being in this group really helped me appreciate the diversity of bodies and not take my strengths for granted. Like, I can’t really chaturanga properly, I can’t bind arms behind my back… but I can push up to wheel and kick up to a handstand! “Just” have to stick with it to get the other parts and keep getting better!
Be kind to yourselves. Give yourself permission to fail. Much like I have at this challenge. Maybe tomorrow I pick it back up?
How can we support/encourage you?
Day 6! Am I the only one who has tackled ab day so far?
I won’t lie, it is hard. And I usually like ab day.
I encourage you all to try. Just play the video, attempt each exercise using whatever modifications you need, then rest until the next one starts. Try it, do as much as you can, and rest until the next one.
I’m about to start!
Done! That one was really hard. I also made it much harder on myself with those side planks. I wasn’t watching the screen, just listening, and I totally didn’t know SHE HAD HER DAMN KNEES ON THE GROUND! I only had my feet and my elbow/forearm on the ground. I didn’t realize it until she said to extend the top leg and I was like “what do you mean, it is already extended.” I’ve never done side planks with knees on the ground before so I didn’t even know that was an option. I totally left them down when we switched sides.
I did a little bit of today’s since I’m technically a day behind, but she kept mentioning feeling the burn in your abs and I definitely did not feel it in my abs but felt it in my shoulder. Don’t know if that’s from bad form or just the particular weaknesses/strengths of my body or what. I will come back to it tomorrow.
Oh, I definitely felt it in my shoulder, too, on those forearm planks. I don’t have good range of motion there - a goal for me to work on next after this 30 day thing.
I’d never done this before, either. I’m glad I was watching her!
This is quite normal actually! If you think your form was correct, it’s likely that your shoulder is just weaker than your abs. I used to have this with regular plank.
Still on schedule here, just did day 6.
I did NOT expect an ab day today so that was quite a surprise. Usually I like ab day but 1) this was already quite the challenge and early in the video I opted with the hard options because I didn’t know it’d be 20 minutes of abs and 2) I just went for a workout with a friend where we focussed on… right… abs. I had yesterday’s session in mind and thought it would be a lovely cooldown. I was very wrong
I missed day 5 I was doing so well! Might do day 5 and 6 today??
