Day 4 is done. I have a busier day today so I snuck it in between two meetings but still had IMs pop up a few times. Today is one of those days where you just have to power through and get it done.
The second pandemic child is my doing. The first one. that is thanks to the universal energy we are flowing with in yoga.
I love the theory that you can leave a child somewhere and they stay. Like yes mjne is only 30% accuracy on door handles so far. But it’s not like doing anything is relaxing with the dulcet tones of a child who doesn’t have what they want when they want it, whether they know what they want or not
After a Frightening Incident, I am now banned from Jazzercise. They said I could do yoga but it seemed premature, so today I just did my physical therapy (sore ankle) and a few bird dogs for balance. Hoping to do Day 2 tomorrow!
I got day 4 done before noon! I could tell you I managed to do it first thing after I got up, but that would be admitting I didn’t get out of bed until nearly 11am.
Yes! I’d been focusing on how hard things are that used to be easier, so thanks for the reminder to observe what is getting easier through practice. I’m amazed what a difference just 4 days has made.
Yeah, this option was not going to happen over here.
I did day 3 and day 4 according to schedule!
Today I noticed two good things:
- I already notice a difference on how close my feet get to the floor in downward dog just ‘by default’ (so without pushing or being super warmed up ready to stretch).
- I never get the breathing rhythm with yoga and it always frustrates me when an instructor says ‘breat into [move]’ and I’m like, but I was just breathing out!? However, today’s practice where we sat down and breath through the meditation-like poses and then repeated the warrior sequence really helped with that! I did the breathing thing properly on the sequence!
I find it works better to do the move with my breath, not to breathe with the instructor. It’s not a dance class, you can be out of perfect sync
I have completed day 4. I’m so grateful to this group as I wouldn’t have done this otherwise and I know this is very good for me!
I tried a folded blanket, and it isn’t quite as comfortable, but it also is less obstructive, so I’ll continue with it for a while and try that out. Thank you and @Hirondelle for the reco.
Day 2 finished with modifications and giving myself some slack.
Surprise chair pose is RUDE
but my right heel touches the ground in down dog!
Bodies are so different. I was like “yes, chair! I can do that one!” but have never come close to heels touching in down dog.
Funny. I woke up today like, less stiff/sore than after the first 2 days, or pre-yoga but I diiid nooot waaannna do the video tonight. But I did anyway.
Unfortunately today’s yoga has been cancelled due to overwhelming tiredness. So sleep in, have a nap or go to bed early.
Oh alright, if you can find the energy here is the link.
I just finished day 5!
so, i do want to clarify, yesterday i called day 4 bullshit not because the yoga session was bad or without challenge. Rather, it’s because my family made it feel the opposite of calming, centering yoga. So for anyone that thought i was saying that day 4 was too easy, i need to rectify that miscommunication…
Because I am one big sore muscle for basically the past 5 days haha.
I think what is challenging for me is to keep my head and neck in a healthy posture while doing all of this.
Anyway today was great. My kid watched cartoons in his room and I did yoga.
I have hyper-mobile joints, and many ligament injuries and knee surgeries to back that up, and I have NEVER come close to heels touching in down dog. I don’t understand it. I can put my feet behind my head, do the splits, stand with straight legs together and put my palms flat on the floor, but I cannot get even close to heels touching the ground in downward dog.
I also have never come close, but I am naturally stiff. I did ballet for 5 years and could never do the splits, and I spent more time stretching than any of the other girls! I also have a weirdly limited range of motion when I point my toes. The physical therapist was visibly taken aback.
Day 2 is finally in the books! My quads were really burning even though I do a ton of leg work with Jazzercise and have been doing yoga at least weekly. These 30 days videos are no joke. Feels amazing!
I do think I should have tried to give myself more wake time before starting. I was only up about 20 minutes and I think an extra 10-20 minutes of futzing around would have been beneficial. Really my only good chance to do these is before breakfast.
With some yoga poses or stretches where the ROM in all the individual pieces seem like they should work, it can be a nerve issue. Like for me touching my toes it is 100% a nerve issue and I can get it if I switch to nerve flossing exercises for a couple of days but I will never ever get it if I just keep trying to touch my toes because.my body freaks out. I have similar issues with proprioception of some forward bends. Where my body freaks out and says no, but if someone adjusts me, I’m like okay this is super comfy.
Bodies are weird! I love it
I’m done with Day 5. I really enjoyed the deep stretches and found today to be very relaxing. All except for the deep squat, that is. My knees give that one a big middle finger.
Uh, oh. My knees hurt with anticipation.
Don’t worry. It was only for a few seconds. I sat my bum on a yoga block for that portion.
