Worth it... Objects of Acquisition

It probably says something about me that I’m using the cut-off top of a 2-liter bottle in the kitchen.*

*In the truck I have a long-necked funnel made for the purpose because the oil input is impossibly placed, and diesel oil is nasty and requires a dedicated funnel anyway.

That is a cool idea for a substitute, but isn’t the neck too wide for many applications?

Not as many as I expected when I made the thing several years ago. It works great for jars in the like, and the wider mouth means I can do things that aren’t just liquids. Basically, it’s only pouring into bottles where that’s a problem.

 But then again I can’t remember the last time I got a 2L of anything so maybe it was still a good use of funds for me

The first time you pour something into a bottle, you win!

So I placed the order over two weeks ago and it hasn’t shipped yet. I had to reach out for them to tell me that the blood orange soap and argan shampoo bar (part of the kit) are backordered and will be stocked back this week.

Quick responses but I am not impressed by their customer service. No offer for a discount or a free bar of soap?

Boo. That sucks. Sorry for the bum recommendation.

Hopefully the soap is awesome once it actually arrives! Seriously, it’ll be 3-4 weeks from the order once it does. I did send them back an email saying they should notify customers when they’re backordered and also that normally a company would offer a discount or a free soap if there are so many issues. They said they would pass along the feedback to the owner.

Haha I’ll be a little bummed if it’s the best soap ever and I only want to get it from them :joy:

Is this where I post that I want an Apple watch?

Not sure if I should wait for the 7 to come out to make the 6 cheaper or if I should jump on a good deal for the 5 now.

I’m also in the process of switching up my phone provider/service situation, so need to wait to confirm I stay in the ios ecosystem (though I couldn’t see ditching my current gifted-to-me very nice iPhone 7 Plus).

If anyone has one, comments on how indestructible/destructible the Apple watches are would be very much appreciated.

I just tried cream cheese that is 50% Greek yogurt and it was delicious :yum:.

@FIFoFum sorry I can’t help, I have no apple products…

you can also post in Objects of Desire if you’re thinking about buying something and aren’t completely decided

As a gift idea for desk employees and desk hobbyists : an Ember mug or even a cheaper heated coaster/ mug set.

I recently got both as last-Xmas/bday gifts from in laws, and it’s just… So Good to have hot tea or coffee an hour or 4 into a workday! It’s expensive for what it is, but… So Good.

Added: Costco recently started carrying them!

That’s the one I have, works great!

Quick note - may not work for govt employees as they are often Bluetooth and not allowed in SCIFs. This was a source of much teasing of our coworkers who bought $$$ mugs and then were legally not allowed to use them half the day.

Absolutely, although still good for half the day I guess? Depends on the specific job a lot.

Also I expect there are some people who like chugging their coffee fast and then working and don’t want to sip as they go. They are wrong, but what can you do?

Other potential audiences: people who craft or write, new and not so new parents, people who are always cold.

I want one for my husband who is market: somehow always gets a call from a chatty client the second he has refilled his coffee, and it’s cold by the time he’s done dealing with their bullshit :joy:

I make Ponder’s drink in a thermos on days like that.

Insulated coffee cups do the job pretty well without using extra energy

He doesn’t like them because then they’re too hot if he CAN drink it right away  we both have insulated mugs. Only I use mine. (Otoh I’m not positive he’ll use the ember since he prefers the “ceramic experience”. At least to his credit he still drinks his coffee, he just adds ice cubes lol)

Totally valid, except you can’t warm your hands on a thermos, and also things stay too warm too long. This solves both totally insignificant issues. I expect energy use is minimal. Especially compared to a microwave or reboiling a kettle. ETA: OK, microwaving a beverage for 1 min 5x a day is actually 3-5x less power than charging ember for 5-8 hours. But it only uses as much as a dim incandescent light bulb (40W adapter).

This is absolutely a first world problem. But so is “my family insists on gifts and I never know what to get my dad” and “the gift ideas I give my family are never good enough/expensive enough”. I absolutely don’t advocate buying yourself one now!

Basically… If a thermos works, great! But if you’re contemplating this for a thermos hater in your life, it is Very Good, that is all I wanted to share.
