I’m picturing you as Carmen Sandiego.
after using the same hand towels from college, handed down WELL used from my parents, last week I bought these insanely fluffy fancy new hand towels from Costco. Big spending $12 for a pack of 2…when folded they are triple the height of my 20+ year old ones so luxurious!
A new remote for the TV. The old one only sometimes worked. It’s absurdly nice to have the TV turn on the first time I try now.
Shower chair. Still excellent.
Omg yes. A shower bench and a chair in the bathroom during pregnancy were a MIRACLE.
I’ve had a bunch of Amazon gift cards from work lately so I’ve been splurging on some “free” kitchen supplies and other random things the past month or so
- Stainless measuring cups. Specifically the Smithfield ones on Amazon. Holy crap. After 12 years of dollar store plastic ones where the paint rubbed off, these are just…amazing.
- OXO cheese grater (ok everything OXO) Previously I was using a grater handed down from my parents that they got as a wedding present 45 years ago (yes, I know that anything would be better than this). But still. This grater is SO sturdy compared to any other I’ve seen in the store.
- Silk pillowcases! If you have curly hair, and/or skin concerns. I have seen a major difference in my hair/skin from using these. Specifically WAY less hair breakage
Two years ago my hair dresser moved to Vancouver and I put off finding someone new. My hair was pretty short, so it was quite some time before I wanted to put my hair in a ponytail and discovered that my elastics were shot and/or the incorrect size for current hair thickness (ie much thinner than it used to be).
And it was another few months before I mentioned this annoyance to a long-haired colleague who suggested I try these new coil hair tie things. Also those hair claw clips which everyone else wore in the 90s but I skipped for some reason (I wore the actual clips instead).
Today we went for a walk into town to try to find mango chutney (no luck) and incidentally hair things. And I got a set of clips and a set of coils, and my hair is in a secure ponytail for the first time in eons ($10 + tax).
Everyone raved about the coils for me. (Thick wavy to curly hair, frizz prone). I HATED them. I could never get them in without them feeling pinchy and my ponytail looking weird.
I’m sorry they didn’t work for you. I have straightish wavy hair that is on the thin side of normal volume. My ponytail is looking weird, and a bit pinchy, but just enough pinch to make it feel secure?
Maybe that’s the issue. I know I have some hair/scalp sensory issues. It may well bother me more than most people!
also, this is the first ponytail in years. so I’m starting to suspect I’m going to need to train up to multi-hour wearing.
Blueland hand soap. They come as tablets that you add to water, they are $2, and best of all, they don’t dry my hands out.
I washed my hands a LOT this winter (new baby in hospital + dog poop ) and previously C.O. Bigelow lemon hand soap was the only one that didn’t dry my hands to the point of bleeding. But Blueland is a lot cheaper and no throwaway plastic.
Also, I appreciate that unlike every other hipster-targeted consumer product, it doesn’t rudely force you into a subscription.
(Their spray bottles are rubbish, but the cleaning solutions themselves are good.)
I love Blueland! I have old glass spray bottles so didn’t get theirs (because they didn’t look like they’d last) but everything I’ve tried so far has been great! Next on my list was the hand soap so thank you for reviewing!
Do you need to use their foaming soap bottles for their hand soap?
I like the fact that it’s just a tab that you drop into water. I was looking at Ethique, because I really like their other products, but you have to mix the concentrate in boiling water. Not the end of the world, but also something my husband is unlikely to do on his own if we need more soap
Any foaming soap bottle should work. I didn’t have one, so I got theirs. It’s a different mechanism than their spray bottles and seems durable so far. There’s a nice heft to it so it doesn’t move around when pumping with one hand.
Distil Unions phone case wallets. I had the sticky one before because I had a phone they didn’t have a case for and it was nice, definitely better than phone + wallet. But I just got a new phone and the case with integrated wallet and OH MY GOSH. It’s so streamlined, it’s amazing, but also has a great feel to it that makes the phone much more comfortable to hold than without a case. And since I had the last one for 5 years, I can say they have great longevity too. Holds 4-6 cards and they stay in securely and are easy to get out. After 5 years, the cards would occasionally come out if I dropped my phone but not on a regular basis, and I had it over stuffed because the stick on one is only supposed to hold 3 cards and I had 5 in there.
I’m sitting here petting it and thinking, “my precious…”
I’m really enjoying Vunella (https://vunella.com/) shampoo bars.
I’ve bought bars from 5 or 6 places over the years, and their peppermint bar is by far the most enjoyable one I’ve used.
Cons- their MSRP is ridiculous, so make sure to find a sale (which seem to be frequent). And they last a really long time, so I haven’t been able to try other scents yet.
Thanks for the recommendation! I’m on my last shampoo bar so it was time to stock up On the shampoo bar page there was a link to a set of 4 bars plus a travel tin for $40, so I bought that and a few bar soaps. Also can use SITE15 for an additional 15% off (I signed up for the mailing list, and then unsubscribed).
I may have already mentioned this but… Funnels. I was oddly resistant to getting funnels. But they make life So. Much. Easier.
Today I used it to get coffee grounds into a jar without spilling (for a body scrub) and to get green tea in a big bottle to be refrigerated.
Also, I just got a newfangled tank top with an integrated bra (Knix brand, Honeylove has something similar) and I’m really excited for wearing it instead of bra+cami. It supports my DDs and is supportive-comfortable (if tight, like leggings/yoga pants). If you’ve been eyeing it, well, it works as advertised!
(My one complaint: the straps are widely spaced for my body; I am trying a cami style one to see if it’s better. It’s not the works offender compared to other bras I’ve tried, still wearable just brings it from 6/5 to 5/5!)
Wait this is a thing with me too. I have one tiny collapsible funnel but am “resisting” buying different funnels that could serve other uses. Deffo dropping the nonsense and adding to cart
