What are you saying?

If the name fits…

Omg. It might mean “dump it”.

OMG this reminds me of when BB used to refer to his brother as something that sounded like “Deddy.” LB’s name that we use is only 1 syllable and we have NEVER used an -ie type nickname for him (although maybe at daycare?). It also has no sounds remotely like a D. 9 years later we remain mystified where this name came from.

We have had our “language explosion” over here and are getting all kinds of words now. She tries to say everything, but her mouth can’t make the correct sounds yet so most of it all sounds the same. Sit, shirt, seat, sink, sing all come out as “Shit.” It’s particularly funny when she puts things in the sink because she refers to all kitchen items as bowls, so she runs to the sink yelling “bowl shit, bowl shit, bowl shit”

That reminds me, this morning Kiddo said he’d get me “a warm cock” for Christmas. He meant “alarm clock”. :woman_facepalming: :joy:

“A goong doong noong, a goong doong noong”

No idea what it means. It gets repeated a few times a day, with enthusiastic body language that I also don’t understand.

I have managed to decipher “dere go” which I presume is “there go” as “I want to breastfeed please mum”. The tugging at my shirt gave that away.

Meanwhile the four year old at the park today to a mum we have never met before “evidently my mum needs to look after my brother, so I guess I can play with you”…

Good suggestion! I tried playing it this morning when he did it and got a “no no no” and ears covered… I think it might be him saying “omg can we go outside and do something already?!” but I don’t really know.

“YOU CAN’T!”

It sounds like something quite different when yelled in an angry tone :flushed:

“C is for Mama, fa fa fa MAMA”

Phonics is going real well :joy::joy::joy:

*we’re not working on phonics, this is Cocomelon inspired

That sounds similar to what we have going on. B switched her Bs and Ds so baby is Didi and bus is dus. She will say B…B…B-Dus :woman_facepalming:

:joy: M for lion L for mama. And he can read ANYTHING. Basically anything says ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOP. Some things say WXYZ.

My mum is convinced he can read his name because she’s been practicing with magnets on her fridge. He knows that when Grandma puts those three letters and asks what it says, it says his name. Which is sweet. And I can see it being a sight word soon.

The wiggler has been going around saying “holy cannoli” today. I tried to ask him where he learned it and got no answer. Finally the winning version of the question was, “Who says holy cannoli?”

“Cookie Monster says it!”

Last night my 3 year old said “I want Ellie!” like 4 times during dinner. She doesn’t know any Ellies, and I was so confused.

When I finally got clarification, it was “I want Ellie! Like ‘let’s go, let’s go, L E T S - G O’”. She wanted me to sing our “Let’s go” jingle, where we spell it out, and apparently “L E” is the name of the jingle, haha.

That’s adorable. My 2 year old does the same thing and refers to “Old MacDonald” as E-I-E-I-O and Bingo as B-I-N-G-O

“Bear cup”

It’s a sippy cup that has been inexplicably assigned to “Ded bear” which I assume is actually “Ted bear” and not that he thinks his bear is dead.

The bear doesn’t drinking from the cup, the kid drinks from the cup.

Watch out if he asks you for bear cup and you bring the “milk cup” or “suck cup” by mistake.

Dah-den noood a ban day!!

We have full sentences over here all of a sudden! Figured out that this means “daddy needs a bandaid”. Lucky for daddy she had a whole stack of post-it notes ready to apply to his arms and legs

She’s also making an “ahh” sound and I can’t tell if she’s saying “I” or trying to say her name which kind of starts with that sound. Either way, she’s definitely referring to herself and “I/name needs a” was constant this morning.

BB used to refer to his brother as “deddy” for my reason we ever ascertained. LB’s name is a single syllable and we have never added an “y” sound to it. (Maybe they did as daycare?) It also has a totally different vowel and no sounds that I would have associated with D. Super mystifying. Kids!
