Today I Learned

cw: anti semitism/imagery

First night of Hanukkah, the nyt crossword looked like this. And one of the clues is about the Brandenburg gate, which was used as a symbol of the nazi party.

This is the third time they’ve had a cw like this, and the third time they are shocked, SHOCKED that anyone would think this is a problem.

Wow, that’s definitely not going to help the already extremely strained relations between the paper and the Jewish population of NYC.

Today I learned about Eşref Armağan! His wikipedia is terrible (just about the scientists who studied him) but this documentary is pretty good!

Karen Carpenter was a drummer as well as singer. Also, the name of their band was just Carpenters. Not The Carpenters.

I was talking about the Carpenters earlier and they went in reverse! We’ve Only Just Begun was based on/inspired by a bank jingle that Richard heard in a TV commercial.
