Any chance you can link to your water alarm? We have reluctantly decided on tile in the bathroom and kitchen but a bad enough leak would still get to my wood flooring pretty quickly.
Govee WiFi Water Sensor 3 Pack,… Govee WiFi Water Sensor 3 Packs, Smart Water Leak Detector, 100dB Adjustable Alarm Suit for Home and Basement, Leak Alert with Email & APP Push (Only Support 2.4G Wi-Fi) - Amazon.com
Only complaint I have is that the batteries have only lasted a couple years and some (behind fridge, under dishwasher) were annoying to get to to replace the batteries lol. Otherwise we’ve had them since Oct 2022 and no complaints! They work when wet, no app issues, et.
We have water alarms too! Technology for the win!
They only Govee device I have is the temperature monitor for my greenhouse, but I’ve been quite pleased with it.
This is a finance forum right? This is a financial victory!
A friend who is a hairdresser and who never learned about money just let me set up a Roth IRA for her. We were having a girls night and we got it done in like 15 minutes. She will now be contributing $125 per month towards her Roth IRA!
It’s likely she will never notice the money leaving her account and hopefully this is one of the first steps towards financial literacy for her! I’m so proud
That’s fantastic!
Ummm can I just relish for a moment that you guys didn’t just talk about it, you actually helped her set up an account!! Well done. her and you.
We had talked about it previously when we were out and about so I didn’t totally blindside her with it! I’m so proud of her for actually making it happen! I think she was shocked that it was so fast and easy. I basically did everything on the computer except enter her details and create a password. She’s so cute “I spend $125 on way dumber stuff every month, I bet I’m not even going to notice this”
I told her she can change it at anytime. If she has a tough month she can lower it but if she starts making more money she can raise it later too. I do her taxes so I might cajole her into an annual increase of like $25 a month
I set up these accounts for a lot of my friends and family and the joke is that I’m stealing all of their money. I love that they joke with eachother about it
Gretchen Rubin calls herself a “happiness bully” and I feel like there’s an analogous “financial responsibility bully” or something here utmost respect, well done.
I need to do this. Daughter has turned 18 now and thanks to her Financial Algebra class, has told me she wants to set up a Roth IRA. I guess I’ll just go to the Vanguard site and see what we need to do?
I have my Roth IRA through Betterment since they didn’t require a minimum start amount. But that was several years ago. Don’t know if you need a certain amount to start with now.
Don’t be afraid to call them with Daughter. Their customer service helped walk me through their website a couple months ago for something that I knew was a function (moving stuff around) but I couldn’t figure out what menu it ran out whatever to look at within my existing accounts.
Maybe opening one for her (meaning, giving her the money to start it) would be a good graduation present.
We did fidelity but I think vanguard or fidelity would be equally good options! I love the idea of having that be her grad present!
I thought Roth had to be earned income, and that you could contribute if your spouse works, but you do the, but I don’t think kids were included.
Just a caution about legalities - something to check out.
That reminds me, I need to hire her again for babysitting
Obviously, if you file taxes you have a record of income - not sure what you would do if you don’t have a tax record (less that taxable amount, etc.)
Kids can have their own and contribute up to the amount they earn (even for stuff like petsitting/babysitting). And nothing stops the parents from ‘matching’ that, i.e. allowing the kids to contribute up to what they made and then reimbursing the kids. Taxes have to get filed if the amount the kids made is above the filing threshold, otherwise nope (but obviously keep track).
That’s essentially what I thought. I don’t know that anyone has ever been busted for “Roth fraud” but I like to color within the lines.
I got lots done during my vacation. My car and house are cleaner, my yard looks better, and I slept in most days. I went to 4 nurseries, 3 of them new to me and bought lots of nice stuff. Got that all planted along with so many seedlings at my house plus at my moms house. Back to work tomorrow!
