I want to heart this more than once! So glad you two are together and hope you didn’t have to experience any shitty behaviour from humans in order to see him.
The sheer existence of dogs is a victory for humanity. We’ve screwed up in a lot of ways, but we did something awesome when we engineered these pups.
And having your specific dog is the best.
I took my nonfunctional hands and wrists to physio and they said I should recover a lot of their use and gave me exercises. Just demonstrating the exercises for a minute was brutal and now my whole right arm is not working, but I have hope that things will be better.
I ate 4 things today. After the 3 things I was well enough to buy a tub of mint chocolate chip ice cream! Still planning to try for a 5th thing, but overall very proud go me.
I saved 2.75/4 persian cucumbers before they went bad, and made cucumber-mentaiko hand rolls.
I have 5 consecutive days off, which will be spent backpacking, and a glass of Simpler Wines rosé for tonight. Happy Birthday, America.
The face my DH made when I showed him this picture was a Tony Victor.
Brownie fudge swirl Klondike bar.
Driving around with the windows down and the music blasting, singing at the top of my lungs.
And my older kid sliding down in his seat so nobody he knows will see him when I’m being so humiliating.
The ‘how much do you spend on clothes’ thread reminded me that I’ve had a pile sitting around to be fixed for a solid month now. As of a hour ago the pile is gone with one bra repaired, two shirts repaired, one shirt declared beyond hope upon closer examination and then promptly claimed as a cat bed, and two pairs of pants hemmed. I’ve been wearing the pants without hemming since I don’t have that many pairs, and it’ll be very nice not to have to roll them up all the time (and to get the shirts back in rotation). Have about an hour more to kill and then off to meet friends for fireworks.
Unfortunately the cat declined to be photographed on his newly-claimed bed.
The library near my house had their grand re-opening after renovations. Now they have a four season sun room with comfortable chairs, a perfect spot to sit and read. I see a lot of hours in that room in my future.
I had medical intervention and am marginally less hate filled
After watching a documentary and reading a book on the last decades of the Romanov dynasty I am thrilled to be anonymous and irrelevant in the annals of history.
Amazon Prime?
I has amazon prime! What are we amazon priming? Is it easier to find content now?
Is Good Omens up your alley? Cuz I could watch just the title sequence over and over. Although Corner Gas is my current insomnia show after months of streaming every New Zealand show o could find on Prime.
Netflix.
Corner Gas is so great. My kids and I watched every episode then went to visit the (now demolished) set. It was the dorkiest, most Canadian road trip.
I have no kids tonight so I get to cook things that are too expensive for three/ they don’t like.
Rainier cherries
Then bacon and salmon cooked together, chopped fine, mixed with avo and tomato and corn and spices. Intensely delicious and satisfying.
Also I figured out something about my ongoing hand and wrist issue. I was chopping food for dinner and was like GODDAMN THIS HURTS SO MUCH WHY DOES THIS HURT SO MUCH and I realized that a bunch of my fingers were crazy hyperextended. How do people use a knife without bending a finger backwards? Or hold a spatula? When I tried to hold things differently I ended up hyperextending my wrist or elbow or shoulder. How do people have bodies that just work properly? I want to emulate you.
Then later, watching tv, I realized that the resting position for my wrists is very hyperextended. So I straightened them, and went back to my show. Looked again, and they were hyperextended again. No wonder my hands and wrists are basically dying! I’ve been abusing them constantly for 36 years!
So now I need to figure out how to stop the hyperextension. This will be hard when my joints are as likely to bend backwards as forwards. Probably splints and mindfulness, eh?
But I feel like a tiny victor for sleuthing out the root cause of my hand and wrist issues. Also, I’m told, they are a result of a seriously damaged shoulder. But one thing at a time.
Tonight, for the first time, I had a glass of wine.
