Tiny Victories

I was feeling low but dogs and a kid swarmed me and smothered me with affection. I still feel low, but also very lucky.

Plus, cinco de mayo feast tonight.

I seem to be having a rare month where PMS is not affecting my pain levels or ability to be active. Who knows why? I wish I knew why so I could you know…make this a repeat occurrence…but I’ll just enjoy it while it lasts!

Ok, so I’m done feeling sorry for myself for the day so here’s a bunch of recent Tony Victors:

  1. I reorganized my bathroom and closet.
  2. Husband bought me some fancy pens and notebooks on a whim.
  3. There is a family of squirrels including two BABIES that are literally right outside our window so we get to see them all the time. I love them.
  4. My kitty has been playing with the same giant piece of packing paper for like 3 days now. He loves it, he lives there now, it is his home:

Also feeling sorry for myself, husband has been gone and will be gone another ?? Days (probably 3). So I’m going to praise myself.

  1. I washed my hair today.
  2. I’ve taken a walk every day except the very stormy one.
  3. I have eaten meals regularly, and have kept on track for doing solids for the baby.
  4. I have slept adequate amounts.
  5. Dishes, trash, and laundry have all stayed under control.
  6. I haven’t murdered my dog yet.
  7. I’m heavily using the library’s audiobooks and haven’t resorted to using the TV to distract the baby, except for once to unload the dishwasher. (We try to limit screen time- no judgement to families who don’t, just something I try to prioritize).
  8. I asked for help today. My neighbor is coming and taking my dog for a play date with her dog for a couple hours.

YES! It’s been a long time coming. There are some other issues that have been in the legislative works for a very long time that haven’t happened yet but, progress, in a way that honors cultural tradition and involves guidance of people from those cultures.

Wait, it’s not illegal already? Why on earth?

+1 Learning I need to ask for help and that it’s okay to ask for help and actually asking for help when I need it has been the hardest thing for me to do consistently in adulthood. I still have a long way to go. I saw a friend do that yesterday and was so so so so proud of her for being direct and realizing what she needed and asking for what she needed instead of being vague and apologizing for being human/weird and not ever getting what she actually needs. Why is it so hard to actually do this?

I love this kid. Nobody else’s kid is like my kid.

OMG this is excellent and really interesting news. I read about some absolutely fascinating pterosaurs the other day that were way more terrifying than any t-rex. Prehistoric animals are so cool.

I bathed the baby! All on my own! I am soaked, but she’s clean and alive so it’s a major victory :joy:

It’s legal in your state.

And 46 others.

North Carolina marriage age requirement laws require parties to be 16 to get married with parental consent, while those as young as 14 may obtain license with a court order in the case of pregnancy or childbirth.

Dammnit NC what the actual FUCK is this bullshit?!

Although MA takes the cake with allowing marriage with parental consent as young as 12. Who the fuck would actually allow that?

There is no lower limit for marriage in the place I grew up. We had a fundamentalist community nearby that was marrying girls into plural marriage situations shortly after puberty. It was not a tiny victory for anyone at all. I hope it’s different now but I’m afraid to look it up.

My tiny victory: after about 24 hours of truly horrific pain, I’m functional again. It was new and scary pain but now it’s turned way down and I plan on pretending it will never be that bad again.
I bet it was the burritos we had for dinner that fixed it.

It’s nice out! We have the windows open in MAY. Usually it’s sweltering by now!

Apologies to the northern folks, apparently y’all might be getting snow as a trade off.
