Tiny Victories

You should come hang out at my house. I could help cuddle the baby, my Percy would help cuddle your Percy. Your Percy would probably smack her on the nose (deservedly). We’d all laugh sit-com style.

I convinced myself that taking a job with good but lower pay doesn’t make me less of a man. I also applied for the job before a lifetime of programming could take back over.

Well done!

I held on to the disappointing vegetables that came with takeout last night and pureed them with a couple of the sauteed onion cubes I froze at the beginning of the food worries, and a cup of stock. Melted in some old fort cheddar, and made a very good lunch for me and the shadowy one.

And the Monterey Bay Aquarium is showing their jellyfish tank live atm and nobody is judging me that I’m on the fourth try for this sock toe because I keep getting distracted and losing count.

There is someone in the neighborhood next to mine writing messages/instructions on the path and I find it delightful. Like it will say “hop like a bunny” with circles for you to hop in, then “follow the line” with a twisty line and then “the ground is lava” with chalk drawings of flames. It makes me smile every time I see it.

The manliest men I know have all deliberately shifted into lower paying roles and/or reduced their working hours.

Same here. Or shifted their work hours around to suit them instead of work, and have gone to the beach several times a week since they were told to WFH.

Same here! I actually ran this through my mental social Rolodex and it holds true across the list.

In my personal circles there is definitely a relationship between confidence in the ability to live a good life where “providing” encompasses all the things that contribute to fulfilled people - versus - insecurity and historical notions of “providing” that revolve only around money.

Potted my green onions, some spinach seeds, and pothos cuttings this afternoon!

I have a new thing I love. I’m calling it a Tiny Victory because it’s made by a local company so my new obsession is supporting a small, local business.

It’s this delicious concoction: https://www.instagram.com/p/B8Huh4SjcSg/ On its own it’s delicious and with gin it’s even better. :tumbler_glass: I just put in an order for a bunch more of them plus some amazing-sounding bitters (cardamom bitters and lime coriander bitters). I’m starting to think I should have bought the barrel aged bitters too! https://thebitterhousewife.com/

Omg. I love their bitters. This is very exciting.

And you’re right, the barrel aged are the best… You’ll have to order some!

Darnit! I wonder if I can amend my order?

Market of Choice also carries all their stuff.

Yes! This is where I stumbled upon the Bitters & Soda. I only bought one to try it, and because I loved it I searched them up and ordered. Good to know they have the bitters there too. I usually avoid Market of Choice, even though it’s close to me, because it’s so dang expensive. But everyone, everyone there wears a mask and they disinfect the carts immediately so I’ve been going there more lately.

They also instituted hazard pay for all their workers immediately (I think an extra $3/hr?) extra sick leave, and they’re making their local supply lines even more robust, particularly for veggies and meat (although they were already quite good there). They’re also still locally owned in Oregon (cottage grove). I love them haha.

Oooh, that’s all good to hear and makes me feel better about spending $100 on one bag of groceries.

Ummmmm those look amazing

If you shop mindfully, their produce is actually as cheap or cheaper than what I can get at Fred Meyers.

Eta but not with the FM coupons and stuff.

And they still have a gazillion employees. No layoffs there!
