Can you recommend a tutorial for darning socks? I want to learn but it seems complicated.
I sent Howie a $2000 bill for our vacation (We split vacation expenses 25/75. I pay for everything then send him a bill for his portion. This vacation was quite pricey as we didn’t use any points.) Anyway, I just sent him a bill but was also able to pay my credit card off in full that I used for the trip and still had a good buffer in my checking account. Being able to float $2000 would NOT have been possible a couple years ago, and I want to remember how freeing it feels.
Had a mind shift over the last couple of days. My community used to be online, but for the past 4 years or so it’s been mostly in person. Just realized that I’ve shifted back and that I do have friends and connections, just different methods of communication than before. It’s a good feeling.
I’m with my kids, they are having a bunch of medical tests done. The tech that was giving my bigger kid an ultrasound noticed his Trotsky shirt and the two of them got talking about political history. They really got into it. Now this guy is dragging my kid around showing him off to the doctors and other staff, announcing that he’s never met a politically astute 14 year old and this kid is incredible. My kid is grinning ear to ear.
In another room, a nurse is French braiding little dude’s hair.
They want to stay here forever.
… I am so glad that your kids are getting to have a positive medical experience. Hot damn.
I wish medical people braided my hair.
In an hour I will be getting a massage.
@anomalily’s post about one and all of us pressuring her to go made me realize that I too am worthy of some self-care. I might make this a monthly thing as the school of massage has hour long massages for $33. I can budget $33 a month for this.
Yes yes love this idea!
I’m getting a massage tomorrow, and am really looking forward to it.
$33?! That’s amazing! I am so jealous
Are there Chinese massage places where you live? You can get a foot reflexology treatment which is really a 1-hour full body clothed massage, including a foot soak! They really get in your muscles so it’s a deep massage, though you can ask them to back it off. In some places you can get this for $20 (you should really tip $10) and in Portland we have it for about $30-40.
I’m sorry, I don’t have a tutorial. For cotton socks I just take a needle and thread, and close the hole using the stitch that has the needle going up the fabric from the bottom each time (never having the needle going down through the fabric).
a quick google did not tell me what that stitch is called.
Interesting! I’ll have to look into it. The only massages I’ve had here have been my prenatal and a couples massage that were full spa treatment style and like $180+
Whoa! Well, you should be able to get it for MUCH cheaper than that. I think $80/hour is about normal for around here. You can look for Groupons or places like Massage Envy that are subscription-based (tip well at those places) for closer to $50.
I found some tare bags for bulk foods! I’ve been having trouble finding small ones that aren’t from Amazon. No more plastic!
We BBQ’d vegetables along with our meat today. Corn was a hit, broccoli needs more thought.
It’s at the massage school so you are working with a student and it’s not the most serene environment. You are literally getting massage in a big room with sheets strung up separating the table, held together by binder clips. My massage was lovely, but there always seems to be at least one or 2 clients who insist on chatting throughout the entire time. It’s less relaxing that way.
Office mate gave me coffee so at least today won’t be a total disaster.
Baby has successfully taken a couple naps now in her bassinet. For the last ~6 weeks, she’s only slept on people during the day. The naps are short, but Independent sleep is definitely still “victories.”
Yay! Did you have that moment where you forgot to do with yourself?
Yes. So much yes. I cleaned stuff until I felt sore, then stood around staring at a wall until the dog barked at me.
