Tiny Complaints

Audiobooks were an almost instant no from me. I just can’t listen to someone read out loud.

DAMMIT, Boyfriend and I were going to walk to a neighborhood place and have a dinner date tonight so of COURSE unforecast severe thunderstorms popped up right at 5 p.m.

At least I was back from the vet by then.

i listened to one book that talked a lot about nuclear energy and the dude kept saying “nucular.” how did no one catch this?

i also once bought the audiobook of bell hooks’s “all about love” and the narrator was a dude. whatt!!?!? hard pass.

in general, i am about 10x more likely to be able to listen to audiobooks and podcasts with female voices. sometimes a dude sneaks thru – michael
hobbes! and shockingly i like the author/narrator of “the comfort curse” which i’m currently listening to. but there seems to be part of me that really doesn’t want to listen to the voices of dudes anymore. like of course i love to listen to my husband and interact with the delightful men in my life, but some random guy i don’t know explaining something to me? i’ve had enough of that to last me a while i guess

I feel this in my soul :see_no_evil: I cannot do parenting books with male narrators. I’ve even struggled sometimes to do parenting podcast interviews with male experts! It’s an interesting realization for me, for sure.

ETA interestingly, lived experience parenting of dads I don’t mind. It’s specifically expert role situation.

Trapped at an event with a headache, loud ambient noise that echoes, and no meds handy.

David Sedalia has a wonderful voice. We’ve seen him in person twice and he is great to listen to.

We’ve seen him twice too. He’s hilarious.

I know everyone is waiting with bated breath, so happy to report that wiping down the shelves in the fridge seems to have done the trick :crossed_fingers:

The power went out at 4 a.m. and it woke us up due to the window unit suddenly shutting off. It came back on within the hour but I couldn’t get back to sleep until right before the alarm went off.

Fucking mosquitoes.

Little-known fact: there didn’t really used to be mosquitoes in Los Angeles. When I lived here from 1999-2003, I encountered like one, and that was when I was deep in a creek bed basically asking for it.

This year?

Fuck you very much, climate change.

G fell asleep on the couch at 7am and still asleep. I am bored. Kids are bored. He actually needs the rest. Gonna wake him at noon anyway.

The dresses I ordered as possible wedding attire arrived yesterday. I have at least one complaint about each one:

  • 2 are V-necks - that are deeper than I thought from the pictures;
  • the other one just frees bulky (red, short-sleeved)

Bleh.

Would the v necks work with a slip/ tank top tucked in to your underwear like a classy broad? (Slips are hard to find)

I am debating wearing something underneath, pinning / tacking higher up - I will figure something out.

I am going to put a belt over whichever one I wear, it might help the red dress too. And I found me belts (which were too small, but now fit or are almost too big).

Losing weight (and age) have also deflated the sweater puppets - and the dresses would look better with a better rack. Unfortunately I did toss some older bras, and one of them would have been a better foundation for these dresses (underwire).

There is also probably an element of never being happy with how I look, plus not being a dress-up person.

ETA: I am dissatisfied enough to ship them all back. I have a long straight skirt with a reasonable front slit, and several top options. Not strictly formal wear, but screw it - good enough.

ETA2: I have an actual formal - sleeveless long black sheath dress with side slit decorated with fake rhinestone along each side of the side seam/slit with a bolero jacket. Tried it on and it fits great. My concern was it is too formal (black tie / white tie formal). I will close the bolero with a pin, which means bra straps will stay out if sight. It’s knit so it’s comfortable - WE HAVE A WINNER!

Extremely tiny complaint: I’ve been using a lot of epsom salts recently, and the bag I just opened smells like cat litter

We just got a quote to install AC at our (ductless) house, and it was WAY more than I expected, even with rebates for heat pumps and federal/state tax credits. No AC for us this year :frowning:
