Tiny Complaints

Girl Kitty had a 5 a.m. hairball. Cleaned it up, went back to bed, then Boy Kitty had a hairball. Sympathy barfing? WTF.
Then dozed off again and had really upsetting dreams involving unwanted dental work.

Daisy hurt her hind leg last week. She was zooming around and wiped out and pulled something in her hip. She hurts herself a lot so this isn’t a big thing.
Each day since then she has shown massive improvement from resting all day, then has undone it by having her daily burst of manic energy. We have barricaded the stairs to prevent serious energy but that dog is unable to stay still for the 15 minutes a day when she needs to be zooming.
Yesterday’s running around caused a more serious injury. She is limping much harder than she was before and is clearly in pain. I don’t like seeing this, but if I give her painkillers she will run around and hurt herself worse.
So I get to hang out with a dog who is in pain, and do nothing to help. That’s my complaint.

(I have taken her to the vet for this type of injury many times. If there is no heat or swelling they tell me to try to keep her resting and wait for it to heal. I don’t want to go to the vet during a pandemic to hear what I already know)

Do you have anything on the floors that give her any traction? I think that might help. It’s hilarious and fun when they are zooming and skittering around, until someone gets hurt.

Nothing, and it’s all hardwoods. She also wipes out in the yard.
The internet suggests benadryl to keep her calm.

My moms vet says melatonin works to keep dogs calm? It sends one dog into drugged heaven and doesn’t seem to do anything for the other one so YMMV.

I will try this. Thanks!

I think they do 3 mg for ~55-65 lb dogs.

You are a treasure.

Benadryl works, too, if that doesn’t.

I gave her some melatonin and she is drooping. Hopefully this works, it seems gentler than benadryl.
Don’t mind me, I’m just over here drugging my dog.

Can you get aromatherapy diffusers for dogs? The cat ones work and then it doesn’t feel like drugs

coating a melatonin tablet in peanut butter is the right effort level for me today. I will do more if I have to but I don’t want to. It’s a better day than yesterday but I’m still super useless at the moment.

From management: “Finish plans for <next thing> by Jan. 31st”
Same management: “Present plans for <next thing> on Jan. 13th”

No, neither of those statements are typos.

today is one of the top 5 busiest days I have had at work in the past year. And I have a migraine. And, how to even think about work right now? Why?

530 sq feet, 1 bathroom, 1 partner who regularly sits on the toilet for more than 45 minutes at a time. We live in a bungalow court. Holding it for half an hour isn’t viable and neither is peeing outside.

(This is Wizard’s greatest fault, so this is a very tiny complaint indeed, but omgggggggg.)

Sneak up and pound on the bathroom door. Unless there is a medical issue, there’s no reason to take “squatters’ rights” this far.

Oh, believe me, I definitely hurry him along (no pounding on the door, usually a “hey babe… how long you planning on being in there?”).

Oh man, and I thought I had it bad… Boyfriend has legit digestive issues sometimes which causes me to do the peepee dance during meetings, but at least he is not in that long.
I will never complain about his pooping again!

I did have to train him to not settle in for a long leisurely dump at the top of the hour, unless it is an emergency, as sometimes I have 2 minutes or less between meetings to run and pee.
