I use stainless now that most of my cast iron is too heavy for my hands. I can still use my (great?) grandmother’s cast iron skillet - the really old stuff is thinner, better, and less heavy. I also got a big 12" Lodge with a handle on both sides, and I can usually still manage it with two hands.
But stainless for skillets mostly. For saucepans, I’ve never owned anything except a stainless set that was a wedding gift to my mother 56 years ago. It seems to have some longevity.
Oh, wok is carbon steel. I scrub a little rust out of it fairly regularly because I mistreat it, and it’s still going strong.
Husboo’s preferred forum is falling to pieces because of am argument about how you calculate an expensive maintenance and storage heavy asset as a percentage of your net worth
Yes it is a stupid name
Also, it has stood up really well for me, we have two, one is a couple of years old, the other is the small ‘just one person eggs’ size that we got at the start of the pandemic because I was not up for staying in place with the dying teflon pan we had
Also, we bought the first one because I was standing in the aisle and a woman came over and said, “I know this is really weird, but I bought the Rock pan a few years ago and I’m a horrible cook and always forget things on the stove and burn them and this cleans up so easily afterwards, so I really recommend it if you’re looking for something that will last.” And I’m not a horrible cook, but just the idea that someone in Toronto would talk to you to tell you that they really like their frying pan?
I’m putting off doing laundry because a) it involves going outside to get to the basement and it’s cold and b) I’m irritated that now that someone’s living downstairs again I have to put a damned mask on to go into the damned laundry room in case she was just down there breathing.
She had a number of guests over last night, indoors… I have no idea if they had masks on as I didn’t peek in her windows, but, SIGH.
Quintessential parenting right there. Earlier I had to put my kid in his room and he said “I don’t wanna go to my room! I don’t wanna be in trouble!” Well I don’t want those things either, child, I’d rather be reading or internetting or anything rather than having to deal with your behavior right now, and yet here we are. Your version is just longer between cause and effect.
My work laptop isn’t able to run docker. Almost everything i need to do my job requires docker. The frankenstein environment i’ve patched together is being held together mostly by string and a safety pin and I can’t get a better machine unless I ask for a Mac and … just no.
