This isn’t too tiny, but not sure where else to get feedback so here goes:
DH got a letter from a local bank that an account was opened in his name. He called and said it wasn’t him and they closed it. He went in today to confirm it is closed and they recommended he call SS and consider getting Life Lock. When he got home he got 2 more emails (1 from Capital One, not sure of the other) that accounts were opened. Not sure how the banks have his email address, since they aren’t ones he has an account with.
I looked at Life Lock and then called to get more details. When I asked about how to identify accounts that may be open that he’s not aware of, she said they don’t have a way to do that. They just send alerts on accounts you enter into your profile.
This doesn’t make any sense to me. Does anyone have any experience or insight they are willing to share? My anxiety is pretty high and I don’t want to go down an internet rabbit hole if I can avoid it. (I’m the one who handles admin stuff like that and he takes care of a bunch of other stuff.)
We have had a freeze on credit cards for quite a while. These are bank accounts. He’s called the 2 banks where he got notices from today and they are now closed. @anomalily - do you have any suggestions?
You can freeze your Chex systems too, I think? Like freezing credit, but for bank accounts. Supposed to prevent people from opening accounts… or maybe it alerts you when someone does? Not sure.
Yes - freeze your credit with all 3 major credit groups - Experian, TransUnion, and (something else). Also, my husband pays for Experian to alert him with signs of nefarious activity. Probably cheaper than LifeLock, which as I understand it only takes over once you’ve been fucked over, versus a fast alert you can respond to before their is much damage.
If you don’t already get PINs to file your income tax (US), sign up for next year.
Thanks for the replies. I’ve had the credit cards frozen for probably a year now. And just set up the freeze for ChexSystems. I’ll look into the other suggestions. I’ve requested a report from ChexSystems but won’t get it for a few days since DH selected the option to communicate by mail rather than through their portal. It’s kind of ironic that he’s been targeted as he avoids doing any kind of financial transactions online.
Not small complaint - a friend is very sick, in a “could be dying if she doesn’t get treatment soon” way, and her doctors are not taking it seriously and refusing to get tests scheduled urgently or to refer her to relevant specialists.
Completely unrelated, if anyone has any ins with Bay Area pulmonologists, please contact me.
Oh I’m so sorry! I know someone who had a similar experience in that area and it’s mind boggling. Could she try an ER in a different hospital network? Like drive to Stanford hospital vs UCSF hospital?
TC: two weeks in a row we’re gone from hard not ripe peaches to moldy peaches overnight.
Anyone have tips? I don’t like running the AC and our house ends up being 75-80 F during the day but they won’t ripen in the fridge so we’re just throwing out peaches and dealing with a sad kid who really wants peaches lol.
Sometimes I get to just ripe or almost ripe and then refrigerate. I wonder it putting them in the fridge overnight would work or if it will just confuse them? Please report back on all experiments.
Some of our local peach varieties never really get soft, but you can tell they’re ripe by the amazing smell. Maybe yours were still ripe and just remain firm?
