Swept, did the dishes, lint rolled the couch, put clothes away, put art supplies away, and showered.

Shout out to Gary the Maintenance Guy for coming to inspect my washing machine and inspiring most of this frantic cleaning.

In the process of unfucking the spare room. It was going to be Waffles’s room before he was born but then it suddenly became a home office and merged into a dumping ground. It appears to need to remain a home office. Now home office x playroom haha.

Waffles ended up in Pikelet’s room which is good and may have happened inevitably anyway but between them there isn’t the space for all their things and beds in that room.

I caved and purchased ikea toy storage. I’m giving away a lot of the stuff my parents brought over when they downsized via buy nothing. We are on our way!

This is two days into clearing it out. If that gives context. The loft section above remains at capacity with junk :disappointed:

Edit: argh not sure why I uploaded half my camera roll. Please don’t look at all that! :grimacing:

This is the first pile. This must be gone by end of tomorrow.

Micro unf*ckening: Please judge me by my cleaning skills and not by the filthiness of my shoes. (Left is already done, right is pre-cleaning.)

Yes, I need new sandals but have not had time to procure any and now vacation is in 2 days so at least these are better now.

These are SAS sandals that I bought lightly used probably like 8 years ago? Those suckers really hold up.

My theory is that you can often snag SAS sandals lightly used because they are the kind of expensive that appeals to frugal people. But if you buy sandals for $180 (OUCH they have gone up in the last several years) and then you don’t love them, and you are a frugal person, you want to try to recoup some of your investment.

no before, no after, but the night before last I realized the bathroom sink wasn’t draining well, so I unscrewed the sink plug and went at the catcher thing. Seemed to be ok.

Then last night I realized that the sink still wasn’t draining properly. In the past when we’ve taken out the catcher thing, the screw for the sink plug has fallen down into the trap and it has been a whole thing. This time I stabilized it with a wooden skewer as I took out the catcher. Then I held the screw with tweezers and used an old toothbrush to grab the gunk so it could be thrown away.

And now the sink actually drains quickly and the shadowy one wasn’t pressed into work as a plumber. Obviously it’s been semi-clogged for a while and it just was happening so gradually I didn’t notice.

New garage workbench got built today! I’m ridiculously excited. The old one was 7’ long, new is 12’ and has the shelves placed where I want them. It has a laminate top instead of wood so cleaning it will be super easy. I’m sure I will move things around but I got a start tonight.

No before picture but this was full before. The only thing not shown is the humidifier which is currently in use:

I also cleared out my bathroom drawers. So many expired meds and supplements. A couple were expired longer than my kid has been alive.

I took Tylenol yesterday and had the thought that it only seems to work occasionally when I take it. Then I saw it expired in 2017 :joy: it’sa big Costco bottle

Upgraded some of our counter stuff to reduce counter space struggles/the feeling of every inch of the back of our counters being covered. This is the one we’ve assembled so far. Before it was a bright red basket just for the bread and the fruit just kinda… floated always in our way. So this way it’s a little more space efficient AND the bamboo matches some other things in our kitchen so it’s less visually like HELLO. And lower edges so I can’t lose bread.

Upgrade number two: counter top paper towel dispenser is being replaced with an under the cupboard one. We don’t use a ton of paper towels but they need to be accessible without opening something, and this seems like a good way to get them off the counter but still have them out! This is a fancy one that has a spring thing so you can rip off one handed, and fits Costco size rolls. Wasn’t easy to install though- the screws they came with were too long so husband drilled pilot holes then cut the screws shorter lol. (Personally I’d have just gotten shorter screws to start but I’m not an engineer who likes tools :joy: I also suggested gluing a board to the bottom so it was thicker in the first place, that wasn’t rejected it just required too many extra steps apparently. Who am I to complain, it’s done!)

So, um, I unfucked my junk drawer two days ago…

But now my counter is weirdly messy?

Strange.

There’s no before pic, because everything was placed in such a way that half of it fell out every time the door was opened. This is better. The TJMaxx bins are great, I’m so pleased two fit side by side. Wish I got more for stacking! Maybe I’ll go back tomorrow…

No pic for kid privacy, but today I did my annual un-fucking of J1’s room while he is away.

It took most of the day, it was disgusting, and every year I say I’m not going to let him let it get that bad again, but I guarantee you I’ll be back here in a year saying the same thing.

(full disclosure, he was told two weeks before he left that this would be happening and to get rid of anything he didn’t want me finding. I toss out wrappers and broken stuff but I don’t truly purge)

Also, the boy who said he needed pants for camp now has 14 pairs hanging in his closet after I found them all stashed in various hidey holes in his room. “only have two pairs” my ass.
