If you do that without permission into his 40s and when he’s married, I will have words for you . But with warning in lieu of permission at this point it is disgusting and fair
I used to do this annually when he went to camp or cycling with Dad in the summer, but I don’t think I had any J1 free time last year because camp was day camp, and with covid there were a few other years I missed. And, he’s growing up so I was trying to respect his space.
But it had gotten to a point where he can’t see the forest for the trees. I don’t know why he thinks he’ll get in trouble for throwing out wrappers, but oh so many candy and granola etc wrappers. A petrified orange, apple cores, etc.
So gross, and so much bits of paper that were junk.
It’s now mostly clean, there’s a junk drawer where I tossed all the random crap for him to go through because I don’t want to purge his stuff.
We are seeing an OT once he gets back from camp, and this is what she’ll be working with him on, but I felt it had to be in reasonable shape to have a start point. I also felt that it was in the best interest of our relationship to not clean it together, and he is overwhelmed by it.
Also, I found a set of keys, including the key to our lock box, that has been lost since before Chuck moved out. She moved out 7 or 8 years ago. I have cleaned that room annually a few times since then. He would have been six when those keys went missing. How has no one found them before.
I have this life with my 13-year-old son. “I don’t have any shorts” little man has about 25 pair.
God save me. It’s time to sort baby gear that’s been hiding in Latte’s closet for a few years. (There’s also like 4 giant bins coming in from the garage but those are sorted and labeled. The closet though… black hole.)
All has got to get worse before it gets better.
Flip side there though, empty closet where an 8 cube Kallax is about to go. Toy storage will come out of nursery closet and move here instead.
This is the cute part of the unfucking.
Although coming to realize due to Mega Baby, I have exactly 1 newborn size garment so far see. This is why we sort ahead of time. Whoops.
Done:
2 loads of laundry
Installed and anchored shelf into Latte’s closet
Toys swapped over
Still to be done: ha. Hahahahahaha. Ha. So much.
I bit off way more than I could chew but there was no way I could see doing this in half measures? But husband is gone the next 3 days so this might be a late one for me.
Okay. Steps to stabilize chaos. Get our room empty enough to sleep and empty of Latte potential problem items. Get Latte’s room to the same state. If office and nursery need doors closed and hard limits on entry the next few days, that’s fine. Get current laundry done through the whole process, don’t start more yet.
Those cubes are so cute!
I’m so sad Costco doesn’t have them anymore! Because now I don’t have enough for both Kallax units
Omg they’re on Amazon for $17-20 EACH I thought it felt rough buying them 3 for $16 at Costco lol! But they were so cute…
3 for $16 was a great price for that much cuteness and utility! Maybe Facebook marketplace or eBay?
Eh, then I have to contend with other people having Smells. new baby will just have to contend with some plain $7 per ikea ones lol. Or, if I can find purple ones, Latte will happily give up the animals in favor of the purple
Man, the dumbest tiniest things can really improve life can’t they? I used to have the scissors in that woven bin there. But I use them CONSTANTLY. Tags mainly, (thanks to Grandmas with Gifts for their love language, there’s a constant influx of clothes even when I’m not prepping for a baby), but also loose threads and things like that. This took like 30 seconds to do.
Wow I really need to hang up my scissors. Genius move.
It got critical. My belly kept turning off and changing modes on the washing machine.
I had to refuck a drawer, but you know what? It is none of my business what goes on in my kitchen drawers.
I hope this belongs here. To me it is major although it shouldn’t be
Before: The wall was totally marked up from where the trash can banged against it. I was constantly pulling the trash can away from the wall, but it always ended up back against it…
After: I have tried just soap and water for…years…with minimal effect. Today I used a Magic Eraser and it is almost Unfucked! I may still touch up the paint but it is so much better.
I bought non-slip pads to put under the trash can to try to prevent it from moving back so much. If anyone has other suggestions, I’d very much appreciate them! I’d like to avoid putting something on the wall if I can but that will be the next option I’m considering.
