The Unf*ck It Thread

This cracked me up. How do you keep a minimalist kitchen? By having a separate room/walk in closet for your coffee maker!:upside_down_face:

OMG. Love this dude telling people to learn to live with smaller fridges and shop every day but he has THREE kitchens in his home???

 Yes! And also shopping every day is a huge privilege in terms of time.

In fairness, he may just be sharing his experience and the journalist/writer is coming off more ā€œdo it like him!ā€

Vinegar + dishwashing liquid is fucking magic. Our tub is mega soap scummy and this mix is letting us actually scrub it off.

You knowā€¦ I have done citric acid and dish detergent on hard water on drinking glasses, why havenā€™t I done it on the tub!? Only tried CA aloneā€¦

We did a little impromptu unf*cking of the kitchen, which was getting overrun with espresso accessories (the steel shelves to exile some kitchen stuff) . Our kitchen continues to grow at the expense of our dining/living room and Iā€™m not sure I mindā€¦

Shelves were free from friends moving away, BTW.

This is what happened when I emptied the toy rotation zone of the office closet. I donā€™t keep all of Latteā€™s toys out at once, and rotate them through every week or two as needed to keep her entertained but make cleanup easier. But uh. Itā€™s been a shit show. Just piled in there. So hard to navigate.

So I bought a cube organizer! And we organized. Is it prefect? No. Is it going to make life way, way easier? I think yes.

Interesting side note is that we had to get this one from target since ikea is out. Quality is definitely lower. One of the strips of veneer you can see glue lines behind it, etc.

This is actually decluttering but I am more active here. Help me solve my analysis paralysis. I have a box of gently used/wearable donations and a box of definitely just scrap fabric (old clean boxers, ripped tees, etc). Also a few items I plan to send to ThredUp cause Iā€™ll get a few bucks.

  • Donate all to Goodwill
  • Donate all to USagain
  • Good to GW/thrift, bad to USagain
  • Send bad w/ ThredUp stuff

I want to finally deal with this and have spaaace.

PS Iā€™m near Torrance, CA if you have other options to suggest, please check they are available hereā€¦

Other options for the ā€œbadā€ pile: H&M and North Face take them at their stores for textile recycling. North Face is accepting again after a pandemic hiatus, not sure about H&M.

What is USagain?

Itā€™s a drop box thingā€¦ Different regions seem to have different companies. They export/recycle for profit. I was trying to find something more recycling specific. Iā€™ll look into H&M and NF!

I had to steam clean my couch because the lady Iā€™m having clean used some stinky shit that was giving me a headache. Below the cut, is the water post cleaning. Ummmmmm maybe I should have done this sooner :see_no_evil:

gross

And this was just water, no soap, and quick wash setting. Ick.

I think it was a deodorizing vacuum powder the lady used. No soap.

When I clean my momā€™s carpet I always show her the water because she likes to tell me ā€œit really doesnā€™t need itā€ lol yes mom, it certainly does.

Iā€™m sorry your lady didnā€™t listen.
