The Unf*ck It Thread

I love to vacuum with open windows anyway, I feel like it helps with my dust allergies! We’ve got cats, and so do the folks visiting us. I’m also pretty diligent already about vacuuming hair now that I have the Dyson (PS I think you recced that to me originally!) because I am still in the honeymoon phase with it

Oooh vacuuming with windows open is a great idea and I never thought about it? Gonna adopt that.

Also we started taking our dayson to the beach for kid mess and it’s the honeymoon all over again. I’m vacuuming the car, strollers, etc. They’re awesome :joy:

Does this count here? I un :duck:ed some work files!! Almost 20 years of files with absolutely no organization (or, worse, multiple folders containing only ONE FREAKING FILE. I don’t know why but that infuriates me lol). Now it’s all pretty and sorted by year and I CAN FIND THINGS

Yayyy!!

Re: 1-file folders, that’s such a challenge for me personally… I usually make a folder if I expect multiple things, but sometimes it doesn’t happen and then I’m stuck with an overcomplicated file tree! Why can’t I tell the future? So not fair!

Someone at a past work who was there years before me would, upon creating a client folder, immediately make two subfolders. It didn’t matter if we didn’t actually need both folders. Sometimes Subfolder B would only have one or zero files in it. Sometimes that one file was a fax cover page - just the cover page, but not the rest of it. And by the time I saw it, everything about the fax cover page - the contact names, the logos - were out of date. Just ugh.

Hat’s off to you for un :duck: ing 20 years worth of files!

Tub cleaning!

:sparkles: added in post-processing because bathroom lighting sucks :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

What does everyone use on their tub? I used to do a comet scrub every 2 months or so with Kaboom every week or two in between. Current place does a weird coating thing and forbids bleach on tubs  So I’ve tried various acids and found Pine Sol does a good job getting the gunk off and seems to not affect the coating (I think it came off with barkeeps friend!) it’s kind off noxious to scrub with, though, I’m thinking of getting more Kaboom for quick cleaning.

Instructions unclear, unfucked bedroom so hard it refucked.

Really we were trying to fix a squeak in the bed frame and decided to rotate the mattress and clean under the bed while we had it mostly disassembled anyway. Mattress cover is currently being laundered for the first time in I don’t want to think how long.

I snort laughed. Thank you.

I do a lot of magic erasers and a low toxin spray from the hippy aisle. Sometimes baking soda.

That sounds like a lot more time and scrubbing than I’m willing to put in…

I use Bon Ami and a nylon scrub brush. It’s hard to find but aside from Amazon, I found it at Sprouts. Super gentle powdered cleanser.

I am all about vinegar and water and natural/safe stuff for the majority of cleaning, but when it comes to the tub I allow myself scrubbing bubbles. Nothing else really gets the job done as well :woman_shrugging:

I do the same thing Elle does. It’s not a lot of scrubbing. Magic erasers are bomb

Really super happy to say we deep cleaned our kitchen yesterday, and it looks so nice! I was really embarrassed by the state it had gotten in and even had stress dreams about people coming by unexpectedly and seeing it. My husband and I did it together and it only took about an hour and 45 minutes. I’m hoping this will set off some routine cleaning for us on our day off together.

Oh and also, the cleaning included the refrigerator, and we got rid of a ton of stuff. Now it’s such a joy to look inside of it and see everything so organized! I also hope it will make me a bit more mindful of the things I buy and cook after seeing what doesn’t really get used much in my house.
