The 2022 Elections Thread (be nice)

Oh but they think we’re all socialists, which to them is an insurrection. Also we’re all drag queens in a library., which is apparently terrible.

I do not understand the leaps honestly

I remember when he first ran. I was in WI at the time. I never did like Ron Johnson, and I’ve never seen evidence to change that opinion.

I thinks Kentucky is an interesting case study regarding the temperature of the nation, and our feelings about abortion.

The state voted an overwhelming 61% for Republican Rand Paul in the Senate, and also voted to make 5 of the 6 House seats Republican.

Kentuckians also voted a nice 52% against banning abortion at the constitutional level.

I’ve seen a few articles about GOP leaders starting to ask what they misjudged when predicting election night. Perhaps, gents, look to Kentucky.

Anyone know the recount/runoff rules in CO?

As.far as I know it’s a recount if the margin is less than or equal to 0.5%.

Florida was a major sad on basically all levels so this thread and all of y’all’s joy and pointing out of the good things was sorely needed

I’m sorry. I worked on the senate race there in 2018 and had to do election night reporting, which meant every 5 minutes I got to update the shared word doc confirming that YEP WE’RE LOSING. STILL LOSING. OH NOW? WE ARE LOSERS.

Positive: overall, midterms are supposed to be terrible for the president’s party. This is the first time in ages where that didn’t happen! Dems did better than expected.

This tweet made me actually tear up (despite the braggy, take credit for everything tone).

2020: I had forgotten just how much background stress I had for five straight years (campaign and 2016-2020).

2021: I still cannot believe we have TWO Democratic senators in Georgia. I was one of many who helped make that happen, which makes the multiple Ossoff runoffs worth it. Honestly mind-boggling and amazing. GEORGIA!

District 5 declared for Jahana Hayes this morning, so D’s all across the board! She won by 1,842 votes (~0.8%).

(Obviously not for the state house and senate - it’s about 2/3 D to 1/3 R. My state senator is R and state house rep (who came to my door to talk a few days before the election! I was flustered and didn’t have anything meaningful to say. :joy:) is a D.)

Everything went D in Maryland/my county, to no one’s surprise. The primaries are where the important choices are made, and while Wes Moore isn’t who I voted for there, he was on my short list. And he’s Maryland’s first Black governor, so that’s cool.

We also voted for pot to be legal, and my county voted not to help ICE unless required to by federal or state law.

Man, it looks like Lauren Boebert vs. Adam Frisch is going to come down to provisional ballots and military. I find this very exciting. Good incentive to take part in civics!
