The floor
This is exactly how I imagined your kitchen.
Ooh I like your layout.
I love the plants in front of the window!
I only have two south facing windows so I love those little hanging shelves!
I adore this linoleum but need to strip and rewax it. Thank goodness for steam mops!
Omg my fingers and my phone lol - ok in an effort not to post 40 times in a row
@smacky that delights me. This kitchen is SO me and my childhood and my 11yr old declared this house That 70s House and ours when we were looking at many many houses.
@LadyDuck there is a doorway to the left behind the refrigerator, or I’d make this a full U and it would be dreamy. The layout is a good one though! Sometimes I move the refrigerator over to the right next to the stove because all the good sunlight is currently bounced off the fridge (and put a little table there instead), but for the most part I’ve left it like this.
You have the most on brand kitchen here!
@sunflower is your elephant floor foam tiles or something permanent (I love it)
Your kitchen is so cozy! I love the floor
It’s a foam mat . It’s held up really well since we moved in about 5 months ago so will hopefully be there for quite a while longer.
Here’s my kitchen. I love how light it is and that it is semi open to the dining room and living room to the left while still having some separation of space. Our old place had the kitchen right when you came in and that always felt messy to me. Overall I like it, but if I were to design it myself, I would change the backsplash to something more colourful and switch the sink. We have a 2 basin sink where both basins are the exact same size. Very irritating.
Oh yes that reminds me of another thing that was a big improvement during our renovation - originally I was ambivalent on the two basin vs. one basin sink but having lived with a one basin sink now it’s definitely superior.
@Marcela I love the tile by the foot area of the barstools.
I don’t mind a 2 basin sink where one is smaller than the other. It can be good for having a rinse sink or just to have separation of the spaces. It drives me nuts that I can’t fit my really big pots in the sink.
The “tile” is actually just stenciled paint! I saw a photo with that tile and when I looked it up, it was some ridiculous amount to buy. So I isolated the pattern in Photoshop and then cut out my own stencil out of a plastic blank. My husband wasn’t too sure about it, but I told him if it didn’t work out, we could just put the tile up over the paint or paint it back to the boring gray.
This is so much fun to see! Here is my new kitchen. I adore basically everything about it. My favorite things are the pull out spice rack by the stove and the big space for all of my small appliances. I love the big window with a shelf for plants. Most of my plants are outside right now though. The pantry with Ikea shelving is also pretty great.
Now that is a pantry. Gas stove too? Go you!
I just realized this is the perfect place to post my spices. Putting them in the drawers was dh’s idea and it worked out so well! I have a small cabinet full of…more spices, haha, mostly in bigger bags and stuff, so I use those to fill these containers.
Yup! It’s an amazing double oven as well. The top oven is smaller and gets used a lot for daily things or quick batches of cookies.
Do you have incredible dinner parties? Keeping things warm while cooking other things is the dream, haha.
Sadly COVID has thwarted my epic cooking plans for this kitchen. We only finished the building in December. ONE DAY I will cook epic meals for many people. Hopefully we will have family over for Thanksgiving and I can really put the stove to the test.
You should smash a bottle of champagne against the stove, maiden voyage style!
