A better pic:
Nonono THIS is the better pic, I can see how it looks on an awesome person here! The other pic left me slightly bamboozled. It’s fantastic!
You are SO cool!
Also one picture has an adorable cat (plus an adorable Oro). So the rules of the universe say that one automatically wins.
You guys are sweeties :))
In the interest of not spending additional money on this shirt I’m sorting through two bags of “assorted plastic buttons” for the back closure.
Only… Moderately painful. Buttons are a leftover from an old relation or Partner’s.
You can always upgrade the buttons at a later date!
I had a few lazy days BUT TODAY I FOUND A BUTTON HOLE FOOT FOR MY MACHINE!!
#stoked
Shirt will be 100% finished tomorrow
Well SIGHS never mind. I’ve read through the instructions thrice, once with Partner also looking at it. I’m doing everything to order as far as I can tell but no dice. The top thread bunches like mad (even on stiff woven fabric) and it’s a hot mess. It looks like a bobbin thread disaster when I look at it, but it is in fact only top thread. I’m not even convinced the bobbin thread engaged. It gets a few stitches in and clams up.
Machine is “New Home MX3123” but sadly I couldn’t find any instructions for this machine, it seems to be too old.
I’ll look again but if anyone has troubleshoot ideas I’m all ears!!
Pictured: a few failures.
I never use my button hole foot so I’m no use there, but if you have an adjustable zigzag you can use that to make really great button holes
OOOOOOO
I… have no idea how this would work?? But I have a zig zag stitch I can adjust the size of, yes!
You use the reverse stitch to make a really thin but long bar tack at the top and bottom of the button hole, then for the sides you use a short and thin zig zag to make the sides, then slash the opening.
Button holes by hand aren’t bad either. I honestly preferred it to doing it on my old machine.
Aw I love it!
Oh the rainbow is so cute
I just made the world’s UGLIEST hand sewn button holes.
Good LORD.
I did two. On the final garment because I’m in the “idgaf just finish it” stage of project management. Uh. Unsure how to proceed. They are the right size and appear to be stable. But lord they are ugly.
Won’t the button pretty much cover them? If so, then I’d call it good.
Yeah. I’ll leave them.
I’ll put in hooks and eyes for the top part over the lace.
Unsure how to do the cuffs (this was the back of the shirt). Holes will be more visible with
Update:
New plan.
Sew buttons directly on the top part, decoratively. Do snaps underneath.
BOOM.
Hooks and eyes were tried first but the shirt is too billowy for the tension needed to keep them closed.
Good lord this has become quite the TO DO.
Good job working out a solution!
I am finishing 2 tops that are sitting in “90% done purgatory”, and then working a bit more on my quilt. I will post photos as I go.
