Ah, well it’s fancier than mine – a 413.

If it helps, I don’t understand it beyond sewing forwards and backwards :joy: the fanciness evades me.

I am actually looking forward to giving it a proper cleaning and learning how to do maintenance on it.

Do you have the manual? Looks like it’s available online for free.

I don’t think mine is going to have any parts that you could use. Yours has the distinct advantage of having mostly metal guts instead of plastic ones!

That does make it quite fancy! I’m sorry yours isn’t working as well as it should be :frowning:

I do have a manual! I seem to also have a wire brush and various other small instruments that I have no idea what they’re for, but I’m sure I can find out.

Oil is arriving next Sunday!

Mine is just plain worn out re: the stupid plastic guts – there’s a plastic gear on which the little teeth are basically worn smooth.

It may be I can replace the stupid gear. If not, this is a fatal flaw since without it the spindle doesn’t turn and so there is no bobbin thread and thus no stitches.

Y’all are making me very grateful that I somehow stumbled upon a pretty good one almost 20 years ago when my sister and I pooled our money to buy mom a $100 sewing machine. It’s all metal on the inside and this thing has held up through all sorts of crazy things, especially back when I was doing cosplay.

Oh, the world owes me exactly 0 good sewing machines. The old treadle Singer 66 that I posted a picture of above cost me $40 at a swap meet for machine, table, treadle with three original leather belts, a couple of bobbins, and all. I brought it home, oiled it, and got to work.

ETA: oh, yeah, and a couple of cool old cards of trim in one of the drawers.

I got the skirt back … Closer. The split is turned and half pressed. But I am not happy with how it sits. I’m supposed to hand sew it into place but being a grumpy panda about how messy it looks.

I feel better about it
It’s not perfect-- I mangled the corner so I had to round it out here. But it’s good enough to move on. Coat tails are I think next!

I’d never done them before!! They’re WEIRD. I had to read the instructions like 8 times before I had the gumption to cut the fabric lol. They sit so lovely and flat, though!

When you get them right they’re lovely. It always takes me 47 tries to get them right though.

When I made H’s wedding suit my aunt was helping me and she sewed both pockets in upside down, twice. They’re tricky little bastards

HEHE.
I’m lucky that the instructions for the pattern are really well written. I had to be like “WHAT THE FUCK IS A WELT” a few times but :man_shrugging:

I got a cat mask from Etsy, but it’s gigantic. Trying to sew one from a fitted sheet. I will let the group draw its own conclusions about whether I have a) a sewing machine or b) any kind of sewing knowledge whatsoever.
