It looks like you have a sewing machine with plastic gears…

Having now purchased and tried to read several patterns, some patterns (specifically historical ones that have been remade) are utterly useless

“Yardage: depends on blouse”

No further detail given.

THANKS BRO.

Someone on FB Marketplace is selling a gorgeous 1964 Singer. I am so tempted except that I don’t have a permanent place to keep a sewing machine. I have my current machine back on a shelf and, when I was sewing with it, just picked it up and moved it to my desk. I don’t think I could do that with this machine!

(It might have plastic gears anyway )

Consolation?

That helps, thank you :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I’ve been wanting to sew but afraid because last time I tried to use my machine (about a year ago) I had a frustrating bobbin issue I couldn’t resolve. Luckily bobbin worked just fine second try today! I’ve had some Toy Story fabric I got… probably 6-7 years ago to make something with for Woody. I decided to dip back into sewing SUPER easy and made him a bandana this afternoon. He helped. We’re both very happy with how things turned out! (He got paid in cookies for modeling)

I officially got stumped by part of my coat pattern today. I tried something, ripped it out, and then decided to do it my own, much less clever way.
I think it’s going to haunt me.
:<

But in better news, I got the tails and lining added to the back

Okay ya’ll. The mock frock is… at a place where I am going to start making it suit ME and not just be a generic coat.
It’s a men’s coat and right now it’s too small in hips by a good margin. And I’m more interested in it fitting well than looking “properly regency.”

My plan of action:

  1. Make my dress form match my measurements as much as possible. SHOP TOWEL PARTY.
  2. Seam rip off the tails and part of the back (THAT I JUST PUT ON LOL) and attempt to add a second back panel gore type thing.
  3. Profit??

I’m extremely disappointed to hear that Sewing Thread does not allow more than three posts on a row from @Oro so I’m here to say I’ve put away my sewing supplies for the moment so I can more easily navigate my smol apartment.

I’ll probably break it all back out next week to do maintenance on my machine and fix some sad looking hems on beloved garments (and google how to do that).

OH I also forgot that I picked up a nice LONG spring green curtain that will very easily be converted into TWO CURTAIN PANELS, I just need to cut down the center and hem the new edges. I’m pretty stoked, they were a free pile pickup and I think they’ll go nicely in my bedroom.

I would consider putting them in the living room or kitchen nook, but I don’t even use the blinds there, they’re ALWAYS open.

I expect I’ll want something nice to look at to block out some light in the bedroom in the summer, so these are perfect.

I’m contributing to the other people posting so Oro can post more trend here. I haven’t sewn much of anything the last couple days- the semester is ending and that means all the work, all the time. I am thinking about swapping the locations of the two sewing machines so that the Iron Lady can be in my office next to a window with good light.

I love that you call her the iron lady :rofl::rofl:

SLEEVES! WELL. one sleeve. I had to do a lot of fussing to get it to work in conjunction with the shrunken armscye from the body alterations, and also slimmed the sleeve size in general.

This is filled with aprox. 1 bajillion pins.
Now I need to somehow get all these changes noted down on the pattern. :crossed_fingers::face_with_monocle:

You did sleeves! Hell, you altered the pattern and did sleeves! You’re like the Iron Chef of sewing.

I am so impressed with you. It took me a long time to work up the nerve to alter patterns like that and I was in fashion school. I love that you’re going for it! This jacket is going to be so awesome!
