Sewing Thread

IT HAS BEGUN

I need to be a lot more careful with my neck tho  gave myself a tension headache from weird postures.

Are you me? I hurt my neck sewing today too! H is trying to fix me currently

:< O no. We’re twins in the bad way. I’m currently doing turtle pose (aka, try to make a double chin) and using a heating pad. I hope yours feels better too!!

Yeah it’s not the greatest. I have been knitting in bed and H has our towels and pillows everywhere to show me how I’m supposed to be more supported when I sit.

I have terrible posture when I sew because my machines are juuuust a hair too low but I can’t make them any taller

:< That is stinkfish I’m sorry! Maybe try to shrink. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Q:
I’m obviously still in mock-up phase for my coat, but I am trying to figure out eventual final materials.
I’m assuming if I want wool for the outer layer it should be “suiting” wool, is that correct? The categorization of fabric is a bit confusing to me.

Yep suiting would probably be good, but there’s different weights of suiting too. I made H’s wedding suit from super 120 Italian merino and it was a great lighter weight option for a jacket, just to give you a starting reference. You can also order swatches from places like mood for $1 and that always helps me to compare weights and weaves

HA! I was just looking at mood. A lot of other online places don’t seem to have great wool selection. Swatches sound like the right choice.

Ooooh herringbone!

I like mood. They’re a bit more expensive but have good quality and selection. They are also generous with swatches. I’d rather pay $1 and shipping to get a decent size swatch vs a free tiny piece that’s not enough to touch and compare. Plus I always order way more swatches than I need since I just like touching them

Psst would take advice.

I  herringbone.

Yeah I’m definitely trying to improve my posture overall. With sewing I’m hoping we can change my table around eventually to be taller and I can train myself to tuck my chin the way I should more often. Between the support stuff and some exercises I’m hopeful

@rural I’ll check when I get home today! And I’m so sorry to hear that :c

Have any of you ordered from these folks? I heard about them on a podcast a while back that was talking about more sustainable practices in the textile and fashion industries.

I love the lines of the back. Not sure they come thru in pics.

I’ll likely need to add a second set of back panels to accommodate my hips. But we’ll see. I could also shorten it to my actual waist. I’m holding off making decisions until I make the pattern as written all the way through.

Oooh, pretty! I think you should keep this mockup for summer wear.

Gorgeous seams and it looks like you eased them in perfectly! I see no puckers at all which is no easy feat on that kind of a curve. Jacket making is fucking hard and you are CRUSHING IT
