Objects of Desire

80s was brown. 90s/00s was beige. Now it’s grey. It’s all boring and monochrome any way you slice it :joy:

My experience of the 90’s was “every room is a different bright colour”. This was not universal? What about those sponge-on paint effects?

Agreed each few decades the base neutral shifts. Maybe brown is due a comeback?

90’s definitely had a lot of feature walls. And Dulux Hogs Bristle was the colour.

As the proud owner of a sky blue room with sponged on clouds, I resemble that comment. :joy: I think the issue is more common spaces and people trying for higher end vibes, versus character homes and kids rooms you know know

We just bought and repainted the entire inside of a house built mid 90s because it was so yellow if it was a song it’d be by Cold Play.

I think that the brown of the 80s was leftover from the Earth Tones of the 70s. By the mid 80s the trendy colors were peach and green - very beachy.

Hello. Me again. Seeking retroactive approval for a purchase. So you probably know I’m a bit of a hipster wanker and only drink craft beer. Ideally out of a specifically designed hipster wanker beer glass. Unfortunately over the last few years my crystal beer glasses have all gone the way of my hair. That is to say no longer around.

Introducing my new hipster craft beer wanker glasses!

For anyone interested in details, they’re Spiegelau Beer Tulip glasses.

We drink fruity IPA tonight!

Would this work with the vibe I’m going for in my house, no. Does the other adult who lives in my house get excited about whimsical decorations, also no. Do I want this fish water, yes!!

On a scale of 1 to 100 with 100 being a giant pile of gnome figurines ala @Greyweld’s in-laws, this is a 1.5 at most. Only vaguely whimsical, mostly just representational. Also in the picture where it’s being used as a vase you can’t even tell it’s fish. So you could use it as a vase until you’re ready to let the world see that you’re a fish water pitcher person. Also now I kindof want one.

I’ve seen these at restaurants before and they are ABSOLUTELY within my decor theme… inasmuch as we have “a theme.”

I mean, I legit have three pieces of art together that I describe as “Witchy Architects Home Digest” vibe so I fully endorse that lovely fish water decanter.

I’m cackling, this is our new scale. 1 to GNOME CRATES.

Apparently this one even makes a gurgling sound when you pour water!

I could have sworn I’ve seen your fish vase in milk glass which I really liked, but couldn’t find it online and found this instead.

May they live longer than the hipster wanker coffee cups

I would like a thing that is only mine, is respected as mine and left alone and that makes me feel good. Because I am a fucking parent the hipster wanker fjallraven backpack for diapers was supposed to be it.

But it was appropriated and regularly taken out without me.

So now I am searching for a purse adjacent object. It will be aesthetically pleasing and easy to carry with or without a backpack and stroller. It will be wipeclean or machine washable because I am not delusional. It will fit my phone, wallet and an ebook. Probably not water although that would be nice. A chapstick that has not been accosted by dirty fingernails and another chapstick that is sacrificed. Space to out confiscated toys? Probably a diaper bc life is like that. A larabar just for me. A crappier granola bar for giving away.
