Objects of Desire

I want a kneeling chair for my wfh setup.

Anyone have recos as to a good brand? I’d prefer to spend more and get something good that lasts vs. needing to replace in a year because of splitting seams.

It’s so pretty. But over $300 a square foot, lordy. Portland real estate be crazy. The dog is nice selling point.

I would definitely be doing video re-enactments if I had that swing. How could you not?

I actually really like that song. I’m not a big Miley Cyrus fan but whoever wrote that song is a good songwriter. And she did do a good job with it, I admit.

Agreed, we put the song on last night and all danced around to it.

It’s half the price it would be in my suburb in my city…

I mean, if I convert the USD to AUD, yep, that’s about right for that house in my suburb. If I pretend currency conversion doesn’t exist… we spent more on our less nice house.

I took currency conversion into account, for my calc :grimacing:

Ah, Australia. So expensive.

$900k gets you a nice house in our suburb - we paid $720k.

$720k would get you something awful on 200sqm (2152sqft) here.

On the other hand, we live in the nicest little community, can both walk to/from work (theoretically… we did it a lot more pre-Ewok), walk to ten different parks, walk to daycare and later on, school, walk to cool small bars for a drink (again, theoretically)…

That is wild. I think we slightly under paid (probably not after covid 19 has its way with prices)
Our place is 3 bedrooms one bath. Regularly bigger places go for ONE MILLION dollars (said in the voice from austin powers).

Ignoring the exchange rate that house is very reasonably priced in my mind. We paid more (ignoring exchange rates) for a house in a less central location, in rougher condition, and one less bathroom. Australia :pensive: (I do love our house though!)

Looking at exchange rates I’m mostly just shocked at the state of the Australian dollar. I feel like I blinked and something went horrible wrong?

Why don’t you all just move to Hoth?

Land and property is expensive but jobs can be secure and lucrative (outside of pandemics) and the lifestyle is pretty rad. Weather is alright too. Except when its too hot. Or humid.

The weather today is incredible. But alas all the parks are closed :slightly_frowning_face:.

I’ve always loved a backyard, but never more than during the ‘rona.

I have nothing productive to contribute, but…

I also want a kneeling chair. I’ve experienced one ONCE and it was WONDERFUL and I don’t know why I didn’t think of acquiring one before.

This is the first I’ve ever heard of a kneeling chair, but I am intrigued. I mostly stand to work, but sometimes I get so worn out from standing 7-8 hours a day. I can sit on a stool for 30-60 min before my back has had enough but not a regular awful office chair. I wonder if a kneeling chair is a good solution!

Yes, you Aussies have it rough in the expenses department.

But I actually meant that Portland real estate in Portland city proper be crazy. Because I live so close to Portland but officially in another city, and not in a cheap suburb but a nice one with the second-highest rated school district in the state, and it’s less expensive here. The average price per square foot here is around $200 (which still seems pricey to me!) but that house Bracken likes is over $300/sf. It’s only like 10 miles away from where I live but because it’s in the city, it costs a lot more. It’s weird.

Oooo, well now I want that too. I also want one with a guarantee that my kid would actually use it after the first week or two when the novelty has worn off.

That’s what’s stopping me from buying play equipment - I’m worried it would be a complete waste.
