One major part is that you’re on the other side of some significant traffic choke points, and SirB needs to go north a lot, and to the airport a lot. So it wouldn’t work for us to be down there
@plainjane @mountainmustache29 This is the chair I am probably going to get. It’s not a kneeling chair specifically but you can kneel on it, along with a bunch of other positions.
I’ve wanted one for ages and now that I’m working from home a lot of the time… I really really want one.
A new iPad for Kiddo, probably 7th gen. He currently has a first-gen iPad that’s older than he is and it was fine pre-quarantine.
Pros: a new iPad would support google classrooms and his telehealth app that he needs for therapy.
Cons: I don’t know how long 7th gen will stick around before it’s obsolete. If it’s going to be three years that’s better and <2 years. Aside from this device we are an android household so I’m out of touch with how that usually works. Also it’s $320 for essentially a couple apps that I’m not sure we’d need at all come summer (six weeks from now)? Or might still need one for thirty minutes twice a week?
Ugh, $895 and six weeks for delivery (before the pandemic). I would not count on getting it during the quarantine. Have you worked any length of time with a kneeling chair to know it would work for you? If not, I’d definitely try a cheap one first.
I’ve been looking at land up that way. Based on my study of my habits spanning 4 weeks, I don’t go outside, so winter won’t be a problem.
I am a primary Android user, but I got an iPad compatible with the older Apple Pencil (6th gen) so I could use it for digital art and mostly as a glorified e-reader. It works really well for that!
I much prefer the bigger screen vs my older Galaxy Tab or the Kindle Fire for reading. There are a lot of artsy/video apps exclusive to iPad if that is of kid interest in addition to schooling apps.
I have a 2nd gen iPad mini you can have if it’s useful.
Thanks but no. It’s still too outdated for what I need, 7th gen is the oldest that will work.
I think I’ll put the decision off for six weeks, it’s not that long. We’ve already been managing for four weeks this way.
Wait, I just mapped it. Where you are is 25 minutes from that house right? And over 30 from where we live currently. yeahhhhh that definitely wouldn’t work.
Darnit, my super secret evil plot to get you down here has failed!
Yeah, the traffic if you have to head north all the time is not great. I live on the south end of my city to the south of you, so possibly you could be at the north end and it would be closer. But I still wouldn’t want to fight my way through Portland to get across the state line. I work to the southeast of home, so it’s perfect for me.
Google maps says it’s 20 minutes from my house to the one on Steele and 28 to your current place. 21 minutes from my house to the airport, but of course that’s when traffic isn’t bad. It’s double that during rush hour.
I think we have our answer on why houses cost so much more
Idk why but I want to buy all the things. A local company that sells handmade goods from around the world is doing a sample sale and I’ve already bought a washable rug for my porch, probably will buy some pillows and towels if they’re in the sale.
My favorite woman owned glass water bottle company is doing mystery bags where for $34 you get 2 water bottles and silicone sleeves plus other mystery stuff (they have amazing lip balm, different lids for the bottles, etc). And I waaaaants it.
My favorite boutique got a new shipment from a SF jewelry designer I love and there’s a design that can be worn as a bracelet or a necklace and it matches the other pieces I already own and I want that too.
I am normally not a shopper but I want these things and I want to support those businesses. In short, waaaaaaaaaaaant.
Some 100 pound olympic plates.
I really need more counter space and storage space in my new tiny apartment. There is about 5 sq feet of counter space, and 1 cabinet for pots/pans/bowls/plates, etc.
I realllllyyyyyyyy want this:
But I am trying to convince myself that this will be just as functional, and obviously a better financial decision:
Are you near an IKEA? They have an option that looks nice but is between the two price points, we’ve been very happy with it.
If you owned a house, I’d say get the nicer one and enjoy it forever. But for a rental I’d get the cheaper one for sure.
I am about 2 hrs from an Ikea. Not an option for me right now, which is a bummer because they have so many useful, inexpensive options for me. I wish they shipped!
Ah dang! That is a bummer, this is the sort of thing they’re perfect for. If you haven’t though be sure to check FB marketplace for the item name with IKEA- when we lived 2 hours from one, I got a lot of stuff that way but also obviously depends on car access etc since then it’s already assembled!
@Meowmalade yeah this is how I am leaning. I’m sure nice kitchen carts will always exist. Sigh…the butcher block top is so beautiful. Haha.
Oh that’s a good idea! I keep an eye on FB marketplace. I have a Honda Element, so almost all assembled furniture fits perfectly in the back, buttttt with my back problems I can’t take advantage of great used deals as much anymore because of lifting, etc. Usually I have friends that are always willing to help me with things like this, but since I don’t know anyone here yet I’m having to buy new and have things delivered/assembled which makes me sad because in the past I’ve almost exclusively purchased everything used from craigslist or goodwill. Just a season, I guess!
