May Challenge - “May the Force Be with You”

Update: I’m doing personal hygiene stuff way more frequently! It’s also no longer a Huge Deal to do it. Fresh clothing every other day!

Stretching is erratic and muscle building has been abandoned in favour of increased cooking.

I’m at the really difficult stage of the challenge where each day is 20+ things out. I’m currently a couple days behind but hoping I can catch up this week by starting the dreaded wardrobe declutter :grimacing:

This has been such an excellent challenge for me, and I have learned a LOT about how I approach habits (and my sticking points). I haven’t meditated and practised yoga every day, but I have done both more days than I ever have before.

So far this month I have yoga’d 15 times in 25 days (only missed 3 out of the last 14 days which is huge for me) and meditated 17 times. The yoga sessions ranged between 5 minute ‘before bedtime’ sessions and 30 minute vinyasa flow and yesterday I discovered Adriene’s instructions on how to do a headstand (hmmmm am I too old at 53? I think not) so I am going to work towards that. I’ve found that just getting started is the hardest part, and if I go to my yoga mat, or sit with no distractions, the process is fine, there is no resistance. The resistance is in the actual starting; my chronic procrastination kicking in.

I’ve been doing my gardening things daily, mostly in non-sandals though not the boots that protect from ankle turns and snakes. But I’m definitely not getting enough exercise anyway, so I need to add back in more walking. Will start with walking down the mountain and back up. Hiking boots for those purposes.

I learned quite early on in May that I made a huge mistake… but I am also stubborn so I may still make it. :woman_shrugging:

I’m pretty sure I’ve done something every single day, though I haven’t kept track of what, specifically, gets done each day. I have definitely made good progress with the filing and I think soon I will be able to get rid of one of the boxes in my office/craft room! I need to steal from work acquire more file folders, though.

I have a 12 day rewirements streak right now, and I’ve been hitting just above 7 hours of sleep a night, some nights even getting 8. I’ve stalled on reading daily, though I usually get at least 20 minutes in before bed.

I did personal hygiene stuff before bed as a sequence instead of struggling to remember all the steps. Yay!
I also stretched. Stretching is good.

I ran two miles this morning. I think I’m behind on my running goals but I spent the weekend (plus a few evenings this week) on an impromptu giant landscaping project and my body is still recovering. The run was just long enough to loosen up some stiff muscles but short enough that I didn’t feel totally worn out.

May is almost over! How did that happen?

Please post your final updates in the next few days so the Badge Fairy can do their thing.

I did the things most days this month, with the change away from the goal to always wear the hurty boots. I’d say 80-90% successful.

I got rid of (recycled, threw out, or emptied and stored with craft stuff) all the boxes that my fountain pens came in. That means that I actually checked something off my ongoing “clean up the office” list, instead of just making progress!

I’ve done something pretty much every day.

Original challenge was burpees, it has turned into basic self care. Which reminds me I need to fill up my water cup. I’ve been doing good at making sure I take my medicine, caffeine and booze in moderation, sleep, etc. to try to keep on top of my anxiety flaring up.

I’m declaring success, though I still have to do stuff over the last 3 days of the month

Yoga: practiced 9x this month, so I’m good here
Walking: 12x - need one more in the next three days. I also biked twice, but both times (for errands) were less than 1/2 hour
Weeding: succeeded every day but one that it didn’t rain (plus 2 days with rain) - raining today but a dry forecast through the end of the month, so I need to do this three more days

I only skipped one day of push-ups. I was hoping doing one would turn into doing five would keep escalating until I was super buff. That didn’t happen.
I fell off the piano train pretty badly. I got to advanced enough pieces that practicing was actually hard, and not just remembering muscle memory. I’m going to continue trying to practice though!

i did a terrible job at this challenge. i think the solution is to quit a job and buy roller skates. I did the latter, working on the former.

Wowza, you are an I’m impressive bunch!

Me, I did about 50%. Good job meditating, but only about half the compliance with the various exercises. My joints have been feeling a bit sore, so that didn’t help. But anything is better than nothing!
