Thanks for checking in - I hope you are feeling better. Any decision regarding the challenge is all good. Even changing your goal to whatever helps you battle depression. The force is with you!
I think shining a light on it scared it off, like cockroaches? We’ll see. And thank you.
Some weeding, hauled water up to the woods garden and watered both remaining rutabaga starts and the radish (yes, singular). Woods garden not so much. Something ate almost all the seedlings at the soil line.
So, what edible thing can I grow in shade and heat? Will try for a fall crop with the turnips and rutabagas. ETA: Thinking of beets (for greens) or lettuces. Will see what seeds I have. Might also try some blackeyed peas with the understanding that I’m just growing greens, not peas, up there.
Full shade or almost? I’d probably do herbs or greens, I don’t think much else will do well enough to fruit…
Pretty shady, yeah. There’s a hole in the forest canopy where a giant came down after a lightning strike, but it’s filling in more than o expected this year. So yeah, going for leaves, I think.
I’m not going to be able to do my May challenge (re-starting lifting weights). I realized yesterday, or maybe better-worded would be “came to terms” with the fact that my body is not ready for more stress. I’ve had a hard 2020 health-wise and I finally am accepting that I need to be gentle. So, just walking and stretching for now.
I moved some books from the loft bed that I want to get rid of to the bookshelf.
I managed to get rid of most of my quota over the weekend, just need to do today’s 18 things plus 12 left over from yesterday.
Well, depsite the fact that my accomplisments today mostly consisted of washing a dish (that I then got dirty again) and then going back to bed, I did get two days of walks and a day of gardening (initial planting of almost everything so a lot of carrying large bags of potting soil around and dumping/levelling the old stuff) in this week which works for me.
Yesterday I did a lot of shoveling and hauling, hoeing, spreading, and planting. Goal definitely achieved. Today it’s raining, so I’m off the hook.
Also have three new hills of summer squash where the kale decided not to germinate. I seem to have reverted back to my roots, pun intended. I had decided not to plant three sisters style, but thanks to the kale, I now have crowder peas, corn, and squash right there together.
Today my PhD progress was to work on my group assignment for my enrolled unit, and to record that time in my time sheet.
I’m about to do my stretching before bed.
Bonus: I’ve started fixing up my personal and household hygiene. @Bracken_Joy mentioned grouping tasks so that they’re associated, so now I associate brushing my teeth with wiping down the bathroom sink. I have successfully used the “treat” of wiping down the sink to get myself to brush my teeth regularly.
I “forgot” to check in for week 2.
May 7: all day in the yard
May 8: rain
May 9: yoga, some weeding
May 10: at parents house - weeded there; 35 min (2.1 mi) walk
May 11: at parents’ - planted & weeded; yoga
May 12: at parents’ - planted & weeded; 47 min (2.8 mi) walk
May 13: 46 min (2.5 mi) walk. failed at weeding
May 14: oops
May 15: weeding and planting
May 16: yoga; weeding
May 17: 42 min (2.3 mi) walk; pulled a few weeds
May 18: 79 min (4.1 mi) walk; watered plants and pulled one weed
So far I am on track with walking. I am one day behind on yoga practice, and I mostly remember to do something in the yard.
I posted in the wrong thread yesterday, but I ran three miles for week 3. So I’m on track to meet my goal, as long as I do one bonus run this week and two runs next week. I have a four day weekend coming up so I think it’s doable.
Been taking my meds and drinking water. This morning I went for a walk-jog before work and have already gotten more steps today than I got all of yesterday.
I did laps of the backyard.
I’ve done some more filing and putting yarn away.
So far today, I did the high risk time slot grocery pick up at Walmart. That meant I hauled my ass down there by 7:15 AM, picked up four weeks worth of groceries, and cleaned and put away all the perishables. The non-perishables are still in the truck and I’m taking a break because it’s plenty cool out there and I’m tired.
For garden work today, I need to plant something up in the woods garden if it’s not too wet. I’ll at least go check how wet it is and dig through my seeds to see what options I have.
Belated update: I’m on track for my biking 3 times a week goal (although that may change this week if I take my bike in for a tune-up). I still sound like a Snuffleopagus when I ride up hills, but I no longer feel like I’m going to start rolling backwards! Progress.
I’ve missed 4 days so far of foam rolling, but this is a waaaayyyy better percentage than previously, so I’m calling it a win haha.
Catching up before I forget…a couple bike rides (after replacing the front tire since I ripped a chunk of treat off last week), a walk ,and a day of hauling lumber and doing some basic carpentry to cut up boards as a first pass of new kitchen cabinets. So success for the week.
Launching into the last week! The Force is still with you! (but is still practicing social distancing and other such practices even though restrictions are lifting…).
