Yayyyy! We hope to join you in nicer weather soon
The morning after an ice storm is not a great time to go outside, so of course we did it anyway. Cleared the steps, watched FedEx deliver a package, laid ice melt down the path to check the mail, all good until we tried walking in the road. Then toddler falling all over the place, wanting to be carried, canāt be carried (in case I fell while holding her), wanting to see friends, canāt see friends (I lost track of time and they were going down for nap). Sob fest all the way back home and it took paci, blankey, Encanto, and snuggles to calm her down enough to eat lunch late and go to nap even later.
One hour outside, a Pyrrhic victory.
Weāre having good weather so we managed to convince the wiggler to go outside! And when he did he actually ran around of his own accord.
Literally none of us wanted to get dressed and go out, but we went to the local park for a while
30 mins! Was fun ![]()
Ice storm part two, now with snow. Sled walked to see friends (not our sled-walking friends) and have a play date. 45 min outside and didnāt have to dig out the car first!
Yesterday was ridiculously warm. We did about an hour and a half at the local playground - 10 minutes on the swings, a few attempts to say hi to bigger kids and ages looking for fish in ārivers ā and āpondsā and stomping in muddy puddles
Then with husboo we went to the big park, kid napped through the hike. Probably a similar amount of time
Our sandpit is getting a lot of playtime right now. Especially at 4pm - 5pm, cooler and the sun is in the right spot. We moved the mud kitchen because it was on an anthill, and now the mud cafe is open a few times a day.
I must remember to check our wet weather gear fits NOW, so I can order, else it will be sold out at the right sizes.
In the 30s today, so I left work early to walk the daycare pickup. It was a slushy, slippery mess for part of the 20 minutes home (plus my 15 minutes there), but she loved it. Iām going to look into getting a bike trailer so we can do the daycare trips that way once the snow is gone.
Weāve been doing so well! Another hour and a half in the cold wet today. Tomorrow is a daycare day. They usually do two outdoor periods, as long as weather fits certain criteria
After a stretch of cold and travels, it is now warming up. Today she was home sick and miserable, but perked up for 30 minutes outside to splash in a huge ice melt puddle, push water around with a shovel, watch the curb creek flow into the drain, and try to go see friends (they were already in bed). She needed to be carried home, poor thing.
I forgot to say I managed to get Kiddo outside this past weekend to"help" me garden. He stayed out for a while hour! He even played independently for a while and I was able to actually get things done! This thread nudged me to nudge him and it worked out great.
Our outside time is great but sunscreen is met with a howl by the bigger one. There was some brief acceptance of wearing Dadās sunscreen, but the next day there was a refusal and scuffle to get it applied.
The paving is too hot for toddler Pumpkinās wee feet and she tends to walk on the paving instead of the grass, silly chicken, and then stops moving because her feet are hurty instead of walking to a cool place. I may need to rearrange my yard to reduce burnt feet and itās hard not to rip up all the paving, since I want to do it eventually anyway (bit also the paving bricks are 4.5kg each and I can only lift a few a day, plus I have no replacement).
We went straight from daycare pickup to a local conservation area. About two hours. And I did a walk alone today for about 45 minutes. G did a short bike ride. Lots of outside time for all of us
Another post-dinner meander through the puddles for almost 30 min. I donāt love the time change. I do love the extra light in the evening and that it coincided with some snow-melting weather. The last bit of ice left on the driveway this morning was completely gone by the afternoon.
Three separate outdoor times today (garage tidying, puddle walk, and bike ride) added up for a total of 2 hours today, which is more than we get in two weeks in the coldest months! Iām loving this warm up and afraid to check on when it will be snatched away. There is also a reasonable possibility of a snowstorm through mid-April in these parts, so gotta get out while we can.
I forgot about doing āscienceā outside. I let Kiddo have what was left of a tiny thing of green food coloring ⦠And now he has Hulk hands. I already have a bucket of soapy water standing by.
Today the high was 60 degrees, so we got another two hours in. Tonight the freezing rain/wintry mix starts. It was good while it lasted. ![]()
We got an hour outside yesterday and today! I am shocked.
I havenāt updated my outside time in a while but weāve managed a few 30 min walks here and there. Yesterday we went to the park for a bit and then today walked our usually loop around a pond near our house. Spring is here and Iām really looking forward to getting outside a lot.
Total outside time 2022 = 12 hours
