It's Nice Out Here

We spent an hour outside!

30 min walk this morning to get groceries (she let me use the stroller!!!), and then 1.5hrs at the school playground with a couple girls around her age (2.5 and 3.5) with some really nice sun breaks to savor and only a couple short sprinkles.

time so far this year, because I’m enjoying tracking, but please don’t look if it’ll trigger any negative feelings or comparisons.

74 hours so far outside this year! Way more than last year at this point. Hoping we can keep front loading in case fires this summer kill our ability to be outside at all for months on end.

We spent an hour at the park this morning! It’s nice and in the 50s today but a snow storm is coming through tomorrow and then we will be in single digits through the rest of the week, so we wanted to get some outside time today. My little covid babies still don’t understand how to interact with strangers appropriately - there is no filter or sense of “strangers” at all - and B made a boy a year older than her run away screaming because she was a little too forceful with her “hi, I want to play with you” :joy::joy:

Got in, had lunch, and now it’s pouring rain. Perfect timing for nap for once!

outside is not nice. But we are about to spend a week outside! 8*7 is my estimate. Less than camping but still amazing outside. High 31 low 21 I’m just here to brag

I had the splash mat/ sprinkler mat set up before Ponder left to pick up Duckling from school. Pumpkin and I were already playing when he got home. Perfect weather for it, the sun wasn’t blasting today. So relieved now the maximums are about 35C or less (apparently my limit is 37C.)

After 25” of snow in 48 hours, it was time to clear the steps and path to the garage. After shoveling, a short sled ride, and the slowest three block walk in history, we came back in an hour later.

We had another warm day this past week and got outside for about an hour. Yesterday we got more snow and we’re taking Puglet out for skiing at the park. It’s very close to nap time so we’ll see how long we make it.

Total outside time 2022 = 8.75hrs.

It got above freezing for the first time all week so we took the girls outside. I wish I had thought to time our outdoor time this year! They had fun trying to shovel and B loved her new snow stuff we picked up today. We upgraded L into B’s old stuff even though it’s a little big, because it’s much warmer.

Also finally above freezing here too! Went out for a sled-walk and slow meander over to see if friends wanted to come out. Unfortunately the wind and cold picked up as the sun went down, so didn’t get the full hour I was aiming for, but 45 minutes will do.

We made it an hour outside, Puglet skied a little and sled a little more with Mr Pug. He had so much fun and was in good spirits with the skiing which he is still just learning how to stand in the skis. Nap ended up happening a good 2 hours later than it should have but he did end up sleeping so thank god for that!

Total outside time 2022 = 9.75 hours (woohoo almost in the double digits!)

Between a sled walk with friends and just some fun in the snow afterwards, we managed another 1.25 hours for a grand total of 2 hours this weekend. Looking forward to days when getting dressed and out the door doesn’t take so long.

We’re getting another “atmospheric river” through (where a river literally dumps from the sky! Fun) so our outdoor time has dropped the last couple days, and will probably be low into the week. Sigh.

Just to brag, we logged over 70 hours last week and enjoyed every minute. It also drastically fixed our sleep issues. (We are at zero since returning home)

We go to the library once a week. Today I left an hour early and we spent an hour at a park nearby. This was GREAT. It toned her waaaaay down for library time too. Instead of sprinting the entire time, we actually sat and read books! Like multiple in a row! Definitely keeping this pattern, and bonus, more built in outdoor time to our schedule!

That’s awesome!

Our library has a tiny playground attached to the kids section but they closed it when the pandemic started and haven’t reopened it. You reminded me that I should ask why next time we’re there, as far as I know all the equipment is in good repair.

So amazing! Unfortunately it only works in a resort or camping. But wonderful for everyone.

 nice work Elle family!

We have been spending a lot more time outside since:

  • It’s no longer 37+ max regularly for hours a day
  • Baby became Toddler and likes to walk around a bit instead of me having to play defence on her mouth as she tries to put everything inside it.

We now keep a towel and a brush to remove sand and water next to the back door.
