How Did You Move Today?

Yes! The diet itself is not sustainable in my current circumstances (can either be incredibly expensive or time intensive, resources of which I have neither right now), but it definitely helped reduce inflammation drastically!

I did my physio exercises again! Yesterday I only got partway through twice because People Needed Me. Today, all of them before anyone else was awake. I may do a smaller amount of reps of each exercise tonight because I keep getting stiff again too quickly.

Did elliptical and treadmill shenanigans at the gym, and have continued my foam rolling streak!

Also chased around an adorable 14-week old French bulldog puppy at the dog park

Went for a walk with husband Monday and Tuesday, Tuesday was a long walk to a buy nothing pick up then the library and back. Wednesday was volunteering day so I was on my feet packing food boxes for nearly three hours in the morning but fit in a quick walk around the block after work. Yesterday I was lazy… I’m planning on either going for another walk tonight or maybe a really quick bike ride with husband.

I walked home instead of taking the train a couple stops. I’m trying to embrace the cold weather on days when it’s milder, and I find walking is the easiest way to do that (especially when I don’t want to deal with a crowded train).

I danced today, so it must be Thursday!

I went swimming today! It was my first time in about 1.5 years. I swam for 30 minutes this afternoon, then was hit with my two usual post-swimming desires: to eat all the things and to sleep forever. So far I’ve chosen to eat all the things. Now, time for bed!

A day late… but I hiked yesterday!!! First time since the baby got here. It was an easy one (takes like 45min, a lot of the trail is paved… if it didn’t have giant trees and was a sizable hill, it wouldn’t count at all as a hike haha). Last time I did it was 38 weeks pregnant I think? It was great, I felt strong, and the weather was absolutely perfect.

For my 2020 goals: hikes, 1/20āœ… (That’s one of 20, not the date haha)

Still keeping up with my yoga which I’m pretty proud of. On Friday I got the urge to deep clean so I got Bobbin to try a back carry and was able to scrub counters and vacuum with her 20+lbs on me. Was a nice additional workout with all the squatting to pick things up

I’ve missed 2 days of yoga. Because I’ve been playing way, way too much DDR. :joy:

Hey, you’re still moving! Also I remember playing DDR when I first got it and that is a workout, especially when you really get into the harder difficulties (I think I managed like one level up from whatever the ā€˜stupid easy’ setting was ) But I was sweating watching other people doing it on hard haha

:joy: It’s definitely a workout! I have 4 of the disks (I think? I’d have to look) and I have only broken out one of them so far. I’ve done all of the Beginner and Basic modes (these mode names make no sense, Basic should be like… Medium? I guess?) and have started in on the Difficult ones. Well, except there is one stupidly difficult song in the shop that I can’t even do on Basic. (It’s legit crazy.) My ā€œruleā€ is that I have to get an A or better on them to move up in difficulty for each individual song. The ā€œproblemā€ is that my knees are not super happy about the jumping, they are a bit sore. I should modify it so that the ā€œ2 at onceā€ steps don’t happen, but then it feels like cheating? :joy: I know, my brain is broken. :upside_down_face:

Remember, the important things:

  1. You’re moving your body in a way that makes you happy
  2. Your body is awesome

All the other stuff is just details. The fact that you’re appreciating how you get onto the mat each day (Yoga, DDR, or whatever!) is the key. We can all stress out over what we can’t do, or the ways we ā€œcheatā€, but what really matters is the showing up and appreciating ourselves and our bodies for what we can do no matter what that looks like.

Exactly! That’s like, the whole point of this thread right? It’s about moving. Not some prescribed ā€œwhat’s exercise/what’s notā€ whatever.

Case in point for me today: I did one of my PP workouts. I hated it. It worked my shoulders in a way that they don’t have range of motion and have a ton of crepitus. I had to drop so much stuff it was short and left me in a foul mood. But it’s sunny! So Husband, Baby and I are walking to the grocery store and reclaiming some movement for the day!

That’s exactly what this is about. Some days my movement is strapping Bobbin into a carrier and taking B for a walk in the sunshine because I simply can’t force myself to do anything else (and let’s be real, the dog is whining and being a little shit because he needs to go let off some steam). Beating myself up over that being the ā€œonlyā€ movement I get means it ruins that too. Focusing on the fact that I’m strong enough to carry the kiddo, breathe the air, manage the pup, and walk around a lovely little neighborhood means I end up enjoying it a ton more than I would have. And when I enjoy it, it often blossoms into more movement and general motivation.

I meant to reply to this but then life happened. I love when I remember to push myself to do this kind of thing. That little reminder to sort of stop and smell the roses and enjoy even a small part of something that can be a hassle is so nice. My favorite example was when I used to teach skiing and didn’t love getting up at 5am each day to get to work but I really loved parking at the top of the mountain and being the first one on the trail to ski from the car to where I clocked in. Favorite commute, hands down.

That is a great commute. I have (XC) skied to work a couple of times over the years. It was rare that we would have snow and also have work, but I took advantage of it when I could Definitely my favorite!

I went to barre class today for the first time. It was a surprising amount of arms. I need that, but I will be sore tomorrow. I’d already subbed my swimming plan for walking with a group in my neighborhood on Monday, so it will be a good arm recovery day.

I’ve continued my streak of foam rolling every day, plus yesterday I went on an easy hike and today I walked around a cute historic downtown and trail!
