Been trying to cultivate a daily movement practice for myself for the last few months and thought maybe others might like to join. So this is a place for sharing how you moved today! Anything from taking a walk, working in your garden, or a more “traditional” workout. If it got you moving, feel free to share here!
One note: I’d love to keep any diet/weight loss stuff out of this thread. This is about moving and appreciating the body for what it can do, and working to cultivate a practice of gratitude and appreciation for those things.
I’ll kick things off. My daily movement practice over the last few months has included Yoga with Adriene’s YouTube videos, exploring my neighborhood on long walks with pup and Bobbin, and some body weight exercises (baby presses for the win!). Some days I do all 3, some days none, but I’m working on doing at least one each day.
Today is day 0 of YWA’s 2020 30 day yoga journey so I’ll be participating in that as well, it starts tomorrow on the mat.
Love this. I’m not off activity restrictions from my c section yet, but should be next week. I’ve been doing a post partum guide from “expecting and empowered”, run by a women’s health PT. So far it’s some really gentle work for diastasis recti and walking. Yesterday was the first day I got TWO laps around the park near my apartment, for a total of about 25 minutes.
That’s huge! I loved/still love walking Bobbin around our little neighborhood trail. I remember how much of a Herculean effort the first full loop was for me postpartum, hard but worth it!
I love this thread! Today I rode my bike for the first time in 12 days because I have been super sick. I rode about 13 miles, and it was super swirly windy, but also 50 degrees which was a nice change.
I did some back exercises my boyfriend has been doing. I realised over Christmas how poorly I sit and that I ought to try and fix this sooner rather than later. So 10 minutes of back exercises and 2 minutes of hulka hooping done!
My work schedule and being ill have meant almost zero gym days for me in the past two months. I didn’t even walk my (potty pad trained) dogs for the days I had the flu and now I’m out of the habit and resent having to go outside This is not the mindset I want!
Now that I don’t have to walk Doggo twice a day, every day, and it is so cold that I can’t garden, my activity level has gone WAYYYYYYY down, so I hear this. I did have to shovel for about 30 minutes today, so there’s that…
Moving more is another of my new year resolutions too (and subsequently closing my Apple activity rings more)…got out of bed and got myself to go to an early morning Orangetheory workout class. Tiny win for me on the first day of 2020
Went to a scenic overlook and did a bit of walking there- it was a little scary for me because it was rocky, steep drop offs, and snowy, but I still did a little bit! Need to work on my confidence and footing, but one step at a time.
This is one of my 2020 intentions too, I haven’t done much exercise at all over the last 3 months when I used to be quite active and I’m feeling a bit down about it. I’m going to try go for a 30 min walk in the evening when it’s cooler each day. Yesterday’s walk was to a nearby park to drop off some books in the little free library so I started the New Year in the right direction.
Thanks @Ckni27!
I went for my usual Thursday morning in our local outdoor pool, my swimming buddy is away so no coffee catchup afterwards unfortunately. Beautiful day in Melbourne and a very relaxing swim. I’d like to swim a couple of times a week, don’t think once is enough to build swim fitness but I do other stuff as well.
I got a dance mat for the holiday from sibling (sort of like DDR if anyone remembers that, but you play your own music and the tempo is up to you as far as when you step, within some sort of time limit that I haven’t quite sorted out yet). Odd gift, and why I tend to be very specific where my relatives are concerned if there’s something I’d actually like, but it’ll help on the aerobic side since my usual winter sport is skiing and obviously I can do that every day. At least not as long as I keep doing this work thing, anyway .
I’ve never heard of a thing like that, but I have a DDR mat and like 4 of the different DDR games, so yeah. I like rhythm games. I even thought about trying to get my PS2 to turn on today and play some. My PS2 is mostly dead.
