I noticed a major canned tomato shortage when I spent this summer in Colorado. The shelves at the regular grocery store were almost always bare, and Costco never had them either. Now I’m back in AZ and there doesn’t seem to be a shortage at all. So weird that it seems to be a state by state thing
Hmmm I did not consider that. I’ve just been stocking up on chocolate, because I’m gonna need it to get through Election Day, and for who knows how long after.
We still have a pretty good pantry stash, so if it’s actually unsafe to go out, we can survive on beans and ramen.
We feel this way too. Mr E was commenting today after Costco that he’s glad we got it out of the way now so we can hunker down if we need to (as if we don’t already - getting groceries is the only time we go anywhere).
In regards to tomatoes, I’ve had luck getting then at sprouts and whole foods - the only shortage I’ve seen is at Costco. They are just now expensive at the other stores.
I finally went grocery shopping! I had to go in to work for half a day, and I went after, so I was zoning out a bit and it was not well planned, but we now have produce! Not-much-of-a-challenge: find the impulse buys.
I love how your receipt is categorized!
I worked hard at it! No, j/k it’s what Sprouts does.
I was inspired by this thread to go through my horribly messy spice drawer, throw away some empty jars, and label the top of every single jar, then put them back in neat categories. My family is dutifully impressed.
Stahp. You’re combining some of my favorite things here I wish that was a joke but I found this comment legitimately delightful. Glad the family was sufficiently impressed and grateful!
I missed mentioning this when I did my pictures, but adding a silver sharpie to our junk drawer was really helpful because now I can label the top of all our spice jars in either black or silver so I can read them all. Having both markers in the junk drawer makes it really easy to keep up with as replacement jars come in with the groceries.
This week’s trip to sprouts. We are now fully stocked for the week ahead. I was able to get black beans but their beans shelves were really bare! They were out of sriracha and the bulk dried basil. They were also out of the cheaper sprouts brand jars so I had to buy an expensive glass jar of organic basil.
No going to stores for us this week, I think. Definitely glad we have the option.
Amazing!
Grocery shop! Natural Grocers. Having a couple over for an outdoor, masked visit so I picked up more fun drinks/snacks than I normally would.
Yes, I realized that I had a gold sharpie in my postcard basket, so that has moved into the kitchen!
Not a grocery haul, but we’re supposed to get a freeze tonight, so I picked all the peppers and green tomatoes that are outside the new hoop house today. Worked so long on that hoop house, getting the plastic up, that I was wiped out and didn’t want to deal with processing basil. So the three basil plants that are outside the hoop house have totes turned upside down over them. As long as I remember to take them off during the day tomorrow and put them back tomorrow night, they should do fine for another couple of weeks.
8 meal prep meals: baked tofu, brown rice, roasted cauliflower, roasted sweet potatoes.
Thanks for the meal inspiration! Finally tried baked tofu and its so good. Like…it should be junk food but somehow it’s not!?
Got one more shopping in before whatever election craziness happens. I’m making my usual chili for election night even though I’m not hosting my usual crowd. I bought two regular boxes of triscuts because they were significantly cheaper per weight than the large size (and feel super conflicted about the extra packaging). The tea was an impulse. The last thing I needed was to stuff another box of tea into my cupboard, but here it is. Discount Halloween candy was not an impulse. I need it to help with this week. Also instant pudding, because I’d put that in my basket before I got to the candy section.
