Grocery Hauls and Pantry Snooping

I was very excited about the Asiago and artichoke dip because it is so expensive- but at $2 a container I can double up! It may have been a snack just now.

I do feel a lot better about my refrigerator after looking at all those pictures, though.

Butter is $2.89 at my Aldi.

Last I checked butter was 2.99 at TJs and it’s real tasty.

I am so envious that your Aldi has booze. Ours does not, because of some arcane liquor license law that I think has to do with proximity to a particular school? Hmph.

I have an Instacart Aldi order coming tomorrow. Their prices seem to be going up slightly from the last time I ordered which was over a month ago. The delivery fee, tax, service fee, and hazard-pay tip that I left, added an extra $20 to the order… but I feel like I can’t NOT tip 20% in these times. $99.95 is the grand total, assuming I get everything I ordered. I feel like this is a wash compared to Imperfect Foods. Oh well. We will get some favorite foods, sometimes Imperfect’s brands are weird or have other weirdness, like the butter comes in one big chunk instead of in sticks, WTF.

I’m getting butter in the order and it is $3.29. As opposed to 5 bucks via Imperfect Foods.

I’m jealous of your milk price. Baby E ran out of milk last night so I made a quick run to the grocery store just to buy her a gallon of milk. It was $3.45! I really wish we had Aldi here!

Now I am feeling like I have no excuse but to stick to my grocery budget because it seems the prices are relatively lower here! Aldi has prices about 30% less than anywhere else in town.

I paid 1.39 for milk and 2.99 for butter at Meijer tonight.

Wow. Your receipt shows… foods. Not brands. That’s weird :joy: what a novel idea.

Huh, yeah I never thought about that! Most of it is supermarkt brand, so maybe that’s it?

I just looked at my receipt from a few days ago. It’s a mix of store brand and name brand items, and out of maybe 40 items, only 5 say like “Minute Maid”. Most of the name brand things just say “bread” or whatever. I never paid attention before.

Today was our big Costco trip for November. There was too much to take a picture of and most of it needed to immediately go into the fridge/freezer. Here’s what we got:

  • 2 large boxes of Cheerios
  • Sparkling water
  • 8 pack of Jimmy Dean Breakfast Bowls
  • 2 gallons of milk
  • 4 dozen eggs
  • Large bag of tortilla chips
  • Peanut M&Ms
  • Fruit and Veggie Pouches
  • Frozen Cauliflower
  • 2 loaves of bread
  • Naan
  • Frozen BLSL Chicken Breasts
  • Frozen Blueberries
  • Frozen Broccoli
  • Frozen Peas
  • Large box of quaker oats
  • Bag of Halloween Candy
  • Bratwurst
  • Ground Beef

Non-Food items:

  • New Sheets
  • Heated Throw Blanket
  • Box of Diapers

Total receipt came to $266.62 but $88.74 was non-food items, so $177.88 on food.

I’m a bit frustrated that we are still having supply chain issues. They didn’t have diced tomatoes, cans of black beans, or cans of flavored sparkling water (not la croix OR kirkland brand!). I’ve only been able to get diced tomatoes there once since March. I should’ve bought 5-6 cases last time, but I assumed they had figured out the supply chain and would have them stocked from then on, since they are one of the staples that they always keep in stock.

Whereas I did a Costco trip this week and for the first time in MONTHS they DID have diced tomatoes! I got two boxes of (6? 8?) :grimacing: we use them for so much, especially in the winter.

…I purposely did not post the receipt for that trip :joy: stock up. I’m very worried for Portland post election, and would like to be able to hide at home TYVM.

I have been so frustrated with my spice cabinet situation (stacks and stacks of jars in a tiny cabinet) and today realized…duh, there is literally a perfect solution staring me in the face. I used this cabinet previously for all of my glasses and coffee mugs which I felt like was more aesthetically pleasing but…I am obsessed with how accessible everything is now! I can’t believe I didn’t do this sooner…

Ooooh I LOVE IT! And I’m team “functional is beautiful” so I think I probably prefer this to mugs. Although, admittedly, not having seen your mugs!

I wonder if the tomato shortage you’re seeing is because of the aluminum shortage (I really have no idea, just a conjecture).
