Grocery Hauls and Pantry Snooping

I already used two packets up by heating them up in microwave and them popped them in the oven to bake for 15-20 minutes with seasoning salt. Delicious! You could also try to make borscht.

I’m so sorry, they’re such a new food item to me that I’m just curious what everyone does with them :joy:

Well, my favorite way to eat beets is a salad of roasted beets topped with goat cheese and a balsamic reduction. I didn’t go back to get goat cheese after I found these beets in the freezer section, though.

Ohh that does sound amazing, though.

This is where I admit that I spent $245 at Aldi this morning. That did include 7 bottles of wine and a candle. We’re cutting down on going into stores again, so I bought everything that we use regularly, and a lot of cookies.

Just got back from Aldi myself. I only had about $80 left in the grocery budget but spent $100. Hopefully this will get us at least a few days into next month, maybe even the 7th?

Can I buy milk at your Aldi, please? Mine was more than 2x yours.

There was no bacon of any sort at my Aldi yesterday. It was terrible!

Spoiler in case people want to quiz more:

The frequently misguessed Trump Chobani 5%? It’s sold at Costco. Here it’s $4.59 and regularly on sale when they carry it, versus $2-3 for the little cups. I bet that’s why it’s such a common mistake one!

Summary

I think the only way to do this challenge is to associate food/cooking habits with location, age, and related beliefs (eg vegetarian vs red meat as pertaining to climate). Of course, this doesn’t always hold, and not every food has that association, which is why overall guess rates were like 50%, but the most guessed ones did fit the assumed mold… (my indicators of Cool Whip and yellow mustard were not wrong!)

I think the Chobani maybe fits the Dem mold, esp in the absence of other clues, but is actually widely consumed and not an indicator by itself…

I found the “Rubbermaid brilliance” containers (clear w/grey clasps) to be an interesting indicator of Biden voters in the fridges I saw… And I have them so it checks out haha!

Yeah, all the butter around here is minimally twice as much as yours! I am jelly.

The NYT fridge link was interesting.

I am blocked out of NY Times because if clicking too much, can someone summarize?

Pictures of fridges, you click to guess if they belong to a trump vs biden supporter. It’s a fun game…but a lot of iconic american looking things, I as a canadian, view as trumpy

Went to get chicken quarters and they were sold out, so here is my $8 impulse shopping trip.

Who needs chicken when you can have noodles and tzatziki? (probably not together, though)

I had to defrost a freezer in an old apartment, it was a super-old fridge though.
