Get More of Your S*** Together: January

Let’s follow up on all the things we didn’t quite get to in 2019 and keep each other accountable for new to-do items. This is an unofficial thread, but there will be badges and weekly check-ins on our progress.

First post will be your List O’ Shit. Feel free to add to it as the month goes on.

Original December challenge:

I’m in. Yesterday I took care of a massive one, and I want to keep rolling with the momentum.

Shit to do:
Update all passwords and set up a password manager (DONE 1/1)
Check credit reports
Freeze Latte’s credit (twisted world that Apparently I have to do this…)
Order second birth certificate for Latte
Get passport photo for Latte
Get passport appointment for Latte
Double check SirB and my passports are both current
Try to piece together 2019 spending (mint broke, so it’s not possible from there)
Piece together a tentative 2020 budget
Get all paperwork together for 2019 taxes as it comes available (that’s our usual division of labor- I keep all paperwork sorted and get everything ready, and SirB does the actual taxes)

That’s what I’ve got so far.

I wasn’t part of the December thread, but I’m joining this one. Currently reviewing my to-do list to pick a challenging but feasible task list for January.

Do you know if it costs $$ to drop off e-waste? Our council pickup is in two months and that feels like a long time to store both a dead microwave and a dead fan. If there’s no charge, I totally want to get that done this weekend.

@LadyDuck never mind - I looked it up on the website and it is indeed free! Woot!

I need accountability

  • Send the email to family friend about how much he owes me for web hosting and say that I am not able to update his site - he should find a student who needs a portfolio piece or something for a resume.

  • figure out why automated withdrawals and matching aren’t happening and get them started

  • make a list of things that I could get a handy person service to do and book it as an early bday present

  • bubble wrap painting dealt with

I really need to figure out my job situation. I am floundering a bit. I basically don’t want to continue with my current job but am not sure what I want to do next, so it’s a total champagne problem. But, I think without some external declaration I’m going to continue to stick with what I have. Gah, ok so I guess by the end of January it would be nice to have some kind of job goal/timeline sorted. I have no idea where to start at the moment…but maybe declaring it here will help?

#1 is done! :heavy_check_mark:
Being a giant government bureaucracy, they provided no info or speculation on wtf was wrong with their system to begin with, but they set up hits online account in the office at the cost of only a single morning.

Week 1 check in: I’ve done none of these things.

  1. Finish filing 2019 papers - school and medical

  8. Undo Roth IRA contribution
  9. Find brokerage/bank that can handle my weird rollover needs.
  10. Fix school funding issue :new:
  11. Drop off glass and cardboard recycling :new:

Week 2 plan: A few things must be done this week, namely paying state taxes and addressing the school funding issue that I learned about today. I’d also like to drop off the general donations (since I’ve counted them in 2019 decluttering), make my travel arrangements, and file those papers so I can have my dining room table back. That shouldn’t be too much for a week.

Checked on the new credit card, but the first statement hasn’t generated yet. I had to make a phone call like a heathen to determine this. Now I wait for a statement before I can do anything as the information that came with the card is not what I need to set up payment.

none of these things are done. I did put together the new mirror with the Shadowy One last night, and I did the paperwork required for a portion of my bonus that won’t vest for 2 years.
