It looks like a macadamia year. I thought our tree was flowering heavily, then I spotted this one
ugh my eyeballs just screamed in joy
Now a question for you… they just asked for a donation, how much should I have given? Super small town in Michigan for reference. I’m a little worried I didn’t leave enough.
oh gosh i maybe wouldve left $10? no idea honestly
Me either! Lol. I only had $8 so I left that. I can leave more next time.
$8 seems totally fair!
im curious about how you got them. were they in someone’s yard with a donation box?
Yep! They have a little covered cart with a bunch of small bouquets like this and a coffee can to drop your money in. There are lots of these types of honor system things around here.
i love that! maybe next year if i have excesses of flowers, i can do the same! (i am planning to have excesses of flowers)
You’re the reason I’m going to try seeds next year! Hoping for lots of whatever flowers I decide on. The list is much too long for the space I’m allowing for an annual bed, so I have decisions to make. I’m moving things to make room for annuals in a perennial bed that I already have.
rubbing hands together with glee
my list is also very long! i grew zinnias, snapdragons, dahlias, and cosmos this year. next year i’m planning to do way more snaps, fewer dahlias, about the same number of zinnias, plus rudbeckia, yarrow, asters, sweet peas, and a bunch more fillers. still tinkering with how im gonna fit all that in my yard but i think i have a plan.
what are you planning to grow?
Will all of this be from seed? I already have a ton of perennials, but have only done annuals like in hanging baskets and have never tried seeds. I’ve been finding varieties I like and will definitely need to narrow it down because of space. I’m thinking about the same things you listed. I already have yarrow and asters as perennials. Can I put annuals pretty close together since they get pulled every fall and don’t just keep getting larger every year? I normally like a fair amount of space around plants, but maybe I don’t have to with these and can have more plants.
I’m going to spend some time outside tomorrow moving things around so maybe I will have a better idea of space after that. I mean I ~could~ dig up a whole new bed in the middle of the yard, but really don’t want to. Lol
i grew the queen lime red this year that whole series is just lovely. the straight up lime ones look so good in pink/red/orange/yellow bouquets!
Oh gosh those zinnias
The queen lime seeds are expensive in Australia and my zinnias always get powdery mildew and don’t last as long as I’d like, but sigh so dreamy. Maybe someday I’ll grow some.
I did not see the lime ones! Will be looking!
When do I need to buy seeds? Like, do they go out of stock in the spring so I need to buy in winter?
