Covid-19 discussion

Larabar is edible. Tastes warm and gooey. Sweet. Less nuanced than normal but good.

Whomp, whomp. I canā€™t taste much of anything. Realized this evening when I shoved an MSG-licious pico de gallo flavored tortilla chip into my mouth and there was nothing. A total lack of MSG mmmm so good. Just a sad cardboard crunch texture.

Negative rapid test yesterday, and I feel fine. Iā€™m in DC, and I have zero hope of finding a PCR test. Weā€™ll see how this goes!

The holiday makes it even harder to find a PCR test in DC, since both the Curative kiosks and libraries are closed today and tomorrow. I hope you get to taste your chips again soon!

I hope this phase passes soon and your taste comes back, I hate this for you.

Remdesivir is expensive and would need insurance approval for off-label outpatient use. Ivermectin at least is generic and cheap, even if thereā€™s no clear evidence of benefit.

Yeah, thereā€™s no logic to it. I have some theories, but in the end itā€™s probably due to variable immunity. DH & I were both boosted in October, me earlier than him, both of us probably too early for the current surge; studies show booster protection from omicron infection wanes at 10 weeks.

New CDC guidance says asymptomatic or those with resolving symptoms can end isolation after 5 days. DH still had bright line on rapid on day 5 and a faint one on day 8. Today, day 9, he finally got a negative rapid & has come out of his room. The first thing he did was start picking up around our apartment, ha. He continues to wear a high-grade mask even around us. CDC guidance also says to continue wearing a mask for an additional 5 days after coming out of isolation.

Welp. My turn.

I am just past booster kicking in, so I guess a good time to have it.

One of us one of us one of us.

I hope the booster helps lots and you have many supplies and TV

No TV, but plenty of supplies and a friendā€™s Disney+ password on a 24" monitor.

But really I feel okay, a little guilty over how sick some others (like you) have been. Iā€™ve been doing laundry and taking the dogs out in the woods. And not tasting my tomato soup.

You have worked so hard to avoid this thing. Iā€™m so glad itā€™s mild so far. And that you have Disney plus. And the nothing foods are the wins. I hope nothing tastes like dirt.

Try hot sauce! It tastes like nothing! Itā€™s wild! Actually basically I suggest tasting everything as an experiment in the fun side

Okay now I have to go get the hot sauce.

Edit - thatā€™s just weird.

I still canā€™t taste, Iā€™m lightly snotty, and my lungs feels a little raw. I took a BINAX rapid test, which came up negative. If itā€™s delta, the rapid test should pop positive. if itā€™s omicron, the rapid test might miss it, but statistically I shouldnā€™t lose the sense of taste.

Do I have covid, or am I just a hypochondriac? Thereā€™s no PCR tests here, so we might never know. How annoying.

We probably have omiceodelta. But it is a mystery

Me and my lost smell and taste up in here are a definitive example of vaccine success. Iā€™m annoyed that I canā€™t taste my pizza tonight. If this had happened last year with my preexisting lung issues, I would have almost certainly have been on a ventilator by now, and I almost certainly wouldnā€™t have come off it alive.

i think delta sometimes came up negative on the rapid tests too.

what an irony if it turns out this yearā€™s flu means you canā€™t taste things.

I got my booster on 20-Nov. If this is covid, then Iā€™m also in the sweet spot. I think thatā€™s contributing to my level of calm. I was pretty afraid of covid, until fairly recently.

Same here, booster on 12/13.

What are they saying about boosters? 10 weeks of good protection before it starts lessening?
